在現代嶄新的台北城區中，矗立著一座自1931年保留迄今的老煙囪，它曾經是象徵台北進步的地標。今華山1914創意文化園區，除承載時間與空間的特殊歷史意義，近年更成為時尚青年與藝術家聚集的地方，並為台灣文化創意產業從創作、製造、加值、流通到消費提供一多元平台。國立故宮博物院也藉此特殊的場地展示另一個不同的故宮—數位故宮，以呈現古典與創新結合的另一種故宮風貌。

本展覽館由國立故宮博物院與華山1914創意文化園區攜手合作，以「科技與藝術的溝通」為主軸，運用新科技多元展示方式，提供觀眾參觀的自主及多重的感官體驗。讓古文物與新科技在老建築中重新開出藝術的火花。
