〈無聲之殤〉以新古典主義的名作〈薩賓的婦女〉(LES SABINES)為母體,展現出一種跨時代與物種的寓言轉譯。原作描繪羅馬建城初期,薩賓婦女於對立雙方之間挺身而出,促成關係的緩和與統一。在此背景上朱書麒將畫中人物轉化為角蛙,延續其寫實風格,細緻刻畫紋理與光影,使這些角蛙帶有靜謐而莊重的氣質。角蛙在不同文化中蘊含多重象徵,當牠們取代人類角色時,畫面不再只是歷史場景的再現,而轉化為跳脫古典的寓言空間。
題名的「無聲」與畫面中充滿張力的動態相對比,營造出一種凝結的時刻,彷彿一切停止在衝突發生之際。這種內斂的處理,使作品更聚焦於心理與象徵層面的張力,而非外在事件本身。觀者在靜觀之中,得以體會畫面中角色之間微妙的互動與情緒流動。引導觀者重新理解關係、對立與調和的意義。
Silent Lament draws on the Neoclassical masterpiece The Intervention of Les Sabines, transforming it into an allegory that transcends time and species. The original scene—where Sabine women intervene between opposing sides to restore unity—is reinterpreted by Shu Chi Chu, who replaces human figures with horned frogs. Through precise rendering of texture and light, these creatures take on a quiet, solemn presence, shifting the image from historical narrative to symbolic space.
The title “Silent” contrasts with the visual tension, capturing a moment suspended just before conflict. This restrained approach emphasizes psychological and symbolic depth, inviting viewers to reflect on relationships, opposition, and the possibility of reconciliation.
