(for english pls scroll down)

munus II : Immunity and Community for Contemporary Healing ──୨ৎ── Artwork Introduction 4 /
Between 2018 and 2020, Chang Wen-Hsuan visited various locations in South America, Southeast Asia, and Taiwan. She met and interviewed artists, revolutionaries, NGO workers, independent publishers, independent libraries, historians, and designers, seeking to understand the social issues they observed and how different forms of publishing practices serve as means of response. This research project became "Xsport on Paper," and this work is the exhibition version of that research.
🩺 This work regards these practitioners as charlatans, their publications as medicine catalyst, using cases from the Global South to understand how historical residues become unresolved pathological sites. The social diseases diagnosed by these charlatans and their treatments are divided into three categories: using underground publishing (samizdat) to treat "Good Child Syndrome," using manifestos to treat "Apraxia of Personal Pronoun," and using archives to treat "Panic Disorder of Causality." The work also invites viewers to join in adding their own created bibliographies to the chronology in the appendix, participating together in this ongoing consultation process.
(This work extends from a version commissioned by the New Taipei City Museum of Art in 2023.)
👀 Exhibition Tips 👀
Except for the fragile books on the medical cart's bottom shelf (please don't touch them), all books and zines on the cart's surface are welcome for perusal. The right side of the drawer holds a duplicate of the fluorescent green medical record from the poster, while the left offers guides and tools for those interested in experiencing "charlatans." We welcome you to join us!
