Dillon Froelich Solo Exhibition “Communication Channels” Opening Reception Party Saturday 4.18 – Powered by Toha Radio

Dillon Froelich is based in Los Angeles, California and is a designer on The Simpsons. For his second solo exhibition at Whimsy Works Gallery, Dillon has created a new series of 8 Beach Plastic Rascal Racers, 17 paintings and 10 works on paper. These pieces feature expressive explorations of his characters in a variety of mediums. “Communication Channels” is on view from April 17th to May 24th.

KABEKUI’s artistic journey is a testament to the raw, DIY ethos that defines urban contemporary art. Since childhood, he has found a primal joy in manifesting the figments of his imagination into tangible visual forms. His initiation into graffiti culture served as a pivotal awakening—a moment where he first tasted the unfiltered freedom of expression. This horizon further expanded as he integrated digital tools into his practice, unlocking new dimensions of creative possibility. Sidestepping traditional academic institutions, KABEKUI built his technical foundation in the wild, refining his craft through relentless experimentation and the grit of the streets.

In terms of creative DNA, manga culture holds a sacred place in his practice, with the legendary Fujiko F. Fujio serving as his most profound visual anchor. Beyond the page, KABEKUI’s evolution is a collective tapestry—shaped by the encounters and shared energy of every writer and street artist he has crossed paths with. Each interaction has left an indelible mark on his artistic identity, reflecting the communal and ever-evolving spirit of the streets.

從自學與街頭文化延伸的創作背景

KABEKUI 從小便喜歡畫畫。對他而言，將腦海中的想像轉化為具體形象，是一件令人愉快的事情。接觸塗鴉之後，他第一次感受到創作的自由；而在學會使用電腦進行創作之後，創作的可能性也進一步擴展。他並未接受過美術學校教育，大部分創作基礎都是透過自學與不斷嘗試建立起來。

在影響方面，漫畫文化在 KABEKUI 心中佔有重要位置，其中影響最深的是漫畫家藤子・F・不二雄。此外，KABEKUI 也提到，在創作過程中遇過的每一位街頭藝術家都在某種程度上影響了自己的創作。Uh

《Passing Notes》by Elijah Anderson

Drawing from his upbringing in New York, Elijah Anderson has been immersed in graffiti, music, and drumming since childhood—elements that deeply influence his artistic approach and self-identity. Graffiti taught him composition, balance, color, and form, serving as an emotional outlet during his restless youth. These sensory experiences, echoing his passion for skateboarding and drumming, infuse his visual language with a unique sense of rhythm and freedom.

Elijah describes his style as “playful,” yet it touches upon the multifaceted layers of life. “While most of my imagery has an approachable, childlike visual style, I incorporate many different layers of themes—ranging from straightforward illustrations to abstract and ethereal explorations of life through various creative techniques.”

《Passing Notes》by Elijah Anderson

從紐約的成長經驗出發，Elijah Anderson 自小便接觸塗鴉、音樂與打鼓，這些元素深刻影響他創作藝術的方式與自我認同。塗鴉教會他構圖、平衡、色彩與形式，也成為童年好動時期宣洩情感的出口，這些感官經驗與滑板、打鼓等興趣彼此呼應，為其視覺語彙注入節奏感與自由性。

Elijah Anderson 形容自身作品風格帶有「玩味」（Playfulness）感，但其背後亦觸及生命的多重層面：「我大部分的圖像作品給人一種親切、孩子氣的視覺風格，但我在其中融入了許多不同層次的主題，不論是插畫中直白的描寫，或是透過不同創作手法所呈現出關於生活的、抽象且空靈的主題。」

Passing Notes

Whimsy Works Gallery is pleased to present Passing Notes, the first solo exhibition in Asia by New York–based artist Elijah Anderson.

Bringing together a selection of recent works, Passing Notes unfolds as a visual experience shaped by musical structures. Through an interplay of multiple media, Anderson invites viewers into a space of improvisation, rhythm, repetition, and pause—exploring how visual art can occupy space much like music does: open-ended, responsive, and vividly alive in the present moment.

The exhibition spans pastels, cyanotypes, hand-drawn works, and assemblages with found objects. Moving fluidly between structure and intuition, restraint and release, playfulness and precision, Anderson translates musical concepts such as phrasing, call and response, rests, and improvisational variation into visual composition and rhythmic pacing.

Rendered in a predominantly cool palette of blues, whites, greys, and natural earthy browns, the works evoke a sense of quiet movement and subtle mystery. As Anderson describes it, “This sense of synchronicity feels like listening to an album or attending a concert—each series has its own character, yet they are all interconnected.”

Whimsy Works 奇想會全新展覽即將登場的是來自紐約藝術家 Elijah Anderson 的亞洲首次個展《Passing Notes》。 本展匯集多件近年全新創作，Elijah Anderson 以多種媒材交錯創作，透過具音樂性結構的視覺語言，帶領觀者感受一場關於即興、節奏、重複及留白的流動經驗，並試圖探問：視覺藝術如何能像音樂一樣佔據空間——既是不設限的，且對當下充滿生命力。

本次作品橫跨粉彩、藍曬、手繪與現成物組合等形式，在結構與直覺、克制與釋放、玩味與精準之間自由穿梭。Elijah Anderson 將「句的鋪陳（phrasing）」、「呼應與對答（call and response）」、「休止（rests）」與「即興變奏」等音樂語彙，轉化為視覺創作中的構圖策略與節奏設計。整體以偏冷色調呈現，藍、白、灰與自然棕褐色交織出靈動而神秘的氛圍，他形容「這種同步感就像是一張專輯或一場音樂會中能感受到的，每個系列都有自己的風格，但彼此相連。」

Jeremy Yamamura — DAWGZ｜Solo Exhibition in Taiwan

Jeremy Yamamura (b. 1981, France) is a Tokyo-based artist whose work moves fluidly between street culture, motion design, and character-driven visual art. His creative journey began in the early 2000s within the graffiti scene, where he developed what would later become his most iconic creation: DOGZZZ. After earning a BFA in Motion and Video, Yamamura worked as a director and motion graphic designer before fully committing to his artistic practice.

His work has been exhibited widely in Japan and internationally. He has held multiple shows at Tsutaya Ginza Six in Tokyo and published his first self-titled art book in 2023. Jeremy’s art has also been showcased at The Fridge (New York), Soft Corner (Seoul), Bluey Bluey (Norwich), and most recently at Le Salon Sothebys (Paris).

Beyond exhibitions, he participates in various cross-disciplinary art projects including the 4bysix charity auction and Japan Walls in Wakayama. His collaborations span global lifestyle and cultural brands such as Muji, Converse, Manhattan Portage, and Sesame Street, blending humor, accessibility, and artistic edge into his visual language.

magma has held numerous solo exhibitions in Japan and has expanded their practice into furniture, product design, prop fabrication, stage art, and spatial direction. They have also collaborated with global brands such as Nike, New Balance, and UNIQLO, as well as multiple musicians. “Mixed Foods” marks their first solo show in Taiwan, presenting both newly created works and representative pieces.

In their approach to color, magma blends three chromatic sources: the vivid finish of painted surfaces, the raw tones of found materials, and the aged hues shaped by time—colors that can no longer be replicated today. Rather than chasing consistency, they allow these differences to coexist, preserving the unique textures and histories of each element.

Their creative origins trace back to assisting other artists in earlier years. Over time, this evolved into a habit of collecting objects they encounter in daily life—often things that are “awkward, half-baked, even a little ugly”—yet rich with unexpected character and emotional resonance.

在色彩的選擇上，magma 會將塗裝後色彩飽滿的成品、素材本身的原色，以及經時間變化而難以再現的色調混合使用，希望各種顏色都能保留原有的質地與差異。他們的創作起點源自早期協助其他藝術家工作的經驗，並持續在生活中蒐集物件，從那些「半吊子又有點醜的東西」中獲得靈感。
