One of the award recipients of this year’s NEXT ART TAINAN, artist TSENG Chih-Yu, held a highly popular Nihonga painting workshop during her exhibition at Asir Art Museum. With its elegant, gentle texture and shimmering play of light, Nihonga is a medium rarely encountered in everyday life. In response to enthusiastic requests from participants, Chih-Yu will host an advanced Nihonga workshop on May 24.

This session will introduce a wider range of techniques, allowing participants to create works that are even richer, more refined, and more complete. Don’t miss it!

藝術家曾芷郁拾回遭拆棄準備都更的老屋窗框
裱覆以絹布及紙
再以礦物顏料繪上花草痕跡
光線穿透纖維後
產生兩面均可觀看的角度變化
窗框於此不只承載內外
其裂痕、厚度與邊界
同時意指城市、家庭與記憶的層次
將觀看從平面延伸至空間
使光與時間於展場中流動

Artist TSENG Chih-Yu salvages window frames from old houses slated for demolition and urban renewal. She mounts them with silk and paper, then paints traces of flowers and plants using mineral pigments. As light passes through the fibers, the works reveal shifting perspectives visible from both sides.

Here, the window frames do more than mediate between interior and exterior—their cracks, thickness, and edges evoke the layered dimensions of the city, the home, and memory. Extending viewing from a flat surface into space, the works allow light and time to flow throughout the exhibition.

最近大家走進甘樂阿舍美術館
第一眼都會被藝術家張文菀的裝置作品所吸引
這台叫順吉的機車
陪伴了藝術家二十四個年頭
從小時候被爸爸載
到後來成為順吉的主人
文菀回憶，有一天她過得很不順遂
去牽車時發現順吉身上滿滿的鳥屎
頓時釋懷
感覺順吉－作為家庭的一份子－
也為自己承受了不少厄運與災禍吧
這是多麽值得珍惜的連結呢

藝術家鮮活地再造了當時場景
而遍佈車身的鳥屎
則是她一再練習、試驗、重複甩灑的結果
呈現出極為生動擬真的樣貌

（題外話：阿舍和順吉是不是很配呢）

Recently, visitors stepping into Asir Art Museum are often drawn to an installation by artist CHANG Wen-Woan.

This scooter, named Shunji, has accompanied the artist for twenty-four years. From being carried on it by her father as a child to eventually becoming its owner, Wen-Wan shares a deep bond with it. She recalls a particularly difficult day when, upon returning to her scooter, she found it completely covered in bird droppings. Strangely, in that moment, she felt a sense of relief—as if Shunji, as a member of the family, had borne a share of her misfortune and hardship. What a precious kind of connection that is.

The artist vividly reconstructs that very scene. The bird droppings scattered across the scooter are the result of repeated practice, experimentation, and deliberate splattering, until the composition reached its perfect form.

(An aside: doesn’t Shasha and Shunji make quite a fitting pair?)

One of this year’s NEXT ART TAINAN winners, TSENG Chih-Yu—whose works are currently on view at Asir Art Museum—recently held a mineral pigment painting workshop that was met with an enthusiastic response.

By popular demand, we will be collaborating with Chih-Yu once again to launch a more advanced course at the end of May. Participants will paint and build up layers of lily-of-the-valley blossoms on black walnut wood, using natural Japanese mineral pigments to create pieces that evoke the breath of spring—subtly luminous and gently dimensional, with an elegant, dreamlike quality.
