(Please scroll down for English version)

The Scorpion and the Frog: Masterworks from the YAGEO Foundation Collection
A conversation across five centuries of art is about to unfold in Taichung .ᐟ.ᐟ
Co-organized by the Taichung City Government and the YAGEO Foundation, The Scorpion and the Frog opens at Taichung Art Museum on 20 November 2026. Bringing together works by Jeff Koons, David Hockney, Andy Warhol, Francis Bacon, Pablo Picasso, Jacopo Tintoretto, and many other renowned artists, spanning the Renaissance through to contemporary art.
Curated by Philip Larratt-Smith, the exhibition takes its title from the Russian fable The Scorpion and the Frog. Through unexpected juxtapositions of works across different periods and media, it invites visitors to revisit art historical masterpieces while reflecting on enduring themes of reason and instinct, consciousness and the unconscious.
One of many highlights pairs Francis Bacon's Study for a Pope VI with Jacopo Tintoretto's Portrait of Cardinal Marcantonio da Mula. Two works separated by four centuries, in dialogue across time. Tintoretto's dignified portrayal of authority meets Bacon's psychologically charged papal figure, offering a fresh perspective on these iconic works.
From 20 November, step into Taichung Art Museum and begin your own journey through five centuries of artistic dialogue.
