作品簡介 About the Work|芻狗 Straw Dog
Under the dim yellow sky, a man bends down to hold the dog’s body tightly with both arms, while a man dressed in a suit reaches his hand into the dog‘s body cavity. A golden-yellow paste ooze out and fall onto a toothbrush. At the same time, a pair of chopsticks quietly slip in, pinching the base of the dog’s p***s.
Inspired by the Heimlich maneuver for pets, which requires pressing firmly on a dog‘s abdomen during emergency rescue to expel an obstructing foreign object, the posture and hand gestures of the rescue here lose their original meaning, and leave only the force of gripping and pushing to continue acting. Meanwhile, the toothbrush and chopsticks extending in from both sides of the frame, originally daily utensils for washing and eating, now become massive intrusions, which even dominate the scene. Laozi’s Dao De Jing says, ” The universe shows no favoritism. All things are treated as straw dogs.“ Is the relationship between humans and fate similarly like straw dogs, existing in an absurd state of being ”toyed with“?
