IWC-English Book Club 2021
Kaohsiung International Women Club(KIWC) has been established for 53 years. It offers international women a place to grow, to share and to give via Golf group, and English book discussion…etc.

The English Book Club has had the history of 21 years since our previous vice president - Stella Chu set up in 2000. We have around 12 people so far. We were so honored to invite Clive Hazell to be our club’s consultant 7 years ago.

KIWC English Book Club is a club for all women around the world. It runs the first Monday at 1 p.m. of each month at Qubit Cafe, (Hanshin Arena) No. 6, Lane 50, Bo-Ai 3 Road, Zuo Ying District, Kaohsiung. Even far away from Kaohsiung, we can have a live discussion via skype with members around the world.

The book we discussed is filled with variety, so far we have gone through this half semester as follows: The Age of Innocence, Love in the Fallen City, Minor Feeling, An Asian American Reckoning. The Lone Pilgrim, Ten Lessons for the Post Pandemic.

Our Club runs the whole year, only taking recess in July and August. We also feature movies for discussion. During the epidemic, we also use googlemeet to keep the ball rolling.

Our objectives:
Discuss and share opinions about books
Encourage reading a broad range of books
Build international friendships
At the end of the year, we will discuss our next year’s whole book list

The Book Club provides an important and essential opportunity for members to read books in English that cross a variety of different topics, ideas and imagery. We continue to use books to build bridges and communication through the meetings. They provide us with an essential way of expressing ideas and breaking through boundaries. Each month our members come together to share ideas about books that are both fiction and non-fiction and discuss ideas and imagery that come up through the books and discussion.

“Never stop learning, because life never stops teaching.”” “There are decades when nothing happens, and then there are weeks when decades happen.” Cherish the time that we can share our thoughts.

我們討論範圍包羅萬象，這半學期，我們共讀如下：純真年代、傾城之戀，亞裔美國人被種族化情緒，孤獨朝聖者，後疫情時代的課程。

我們的讀書會全年只休7月和8月。期間也有電影討論。
我們的目標：
•討論和分享有關書籍的心得
•鼓勵閱讀廣泛的書籍
•建立國際友誼
•年末會商討下年度整年書目

Our Dear Members,

The June Book "My Name is Lucy Barton" is a peaceable and approachable book to read. Peggy Owen is a great leader to the June discussion, she started asking "How do you feel the book?" Betty, Faye said they loves the book, Lydia said it is a flat book, no climax, Carol said the book let her know how to get along with her daughters and increase the good relationship with them, Peggy guided us to go through each of her meaningful questions and we all answered very lively. We appreciate Peggy for her kind work of preparations to the meeting.

In the June Meeting, we are so pleasing to see our past member, Sherry, who is also a very enthusiastic person to our club. Great Welcome. Sherry.

Though, Emma is absent,she has done very well in her blog to the book, to her, she offers her thoughts to the book:
"Life is filled with small stuff. Allow to sweat by the little stuff, cause it's your own life". I also wish we all can share with reading her accomplishments in her blog.http://classic-blog.udn.com/readingclub/102758741.

I quoted from her conclusions which are meaningful to all of us that are being mothers. I hope you also love these messages , especially on the Mother's day..

"Every year my kids ask me the same question. After thinking about it, I decided I'd give them my real answer:
What do I want for Mother's Day? I want you. I want you to keep coming around, I want you to bring your kids around, I want you to ask me questions, ask my advice, tell me your problems, ask for my opinion, ask for my help. I want you to come over and rant about your problems, rant about life, whatever. Tell me about your job, your worries, your kids, your fur babies. I want you to continue sharing your life with me. Come over and laugh with me, or laugh at me, I don't care. Hearing you laugh is music to me.
I spent the better part of my life raising you the best way I knew how. Now, give me time to sit back and admire my work.
Raid my refrigerator, help yourself, I really don't mind. In fact, I wouldn't want it any other way.
I want you to spend your money making a better life for you and your family, I have the things I need. I want to see you happy and healthy. When you ask me what I want for Mother's Day, I say "nothing" because you've already been giving me my gift all year. I want you.

Kaohsiung International Women Club(KIWC) has been established for 50 years. It offers international women a place to grow, to share and to give via Golf group, book discussion…etc.

Recently, the President Yeh of Kaohsiung KIWC is initiating to donate found to the Rehabilitation Rehabus. President Yeh also puts great effort to support KIWC English Book Club. At the beginning of the semester, she always show up and give us a warm welcome.

English Book Club has had the history of 17 years since our previous vice president - Stella Chu set up in 2000. We have members around 12-15 people so far. We were so honored to invite Clive Hazell to be our club’s consultant two years ago.

KIWC English Book Club is a club for all women around the world. It runs the second Wednesday 13:00 of the month at Qubit Cafe, No.175, Mei-shu Guan Road, Gu-Shan District, Kaohsiung. Even far away from Kaoshiung, we can have a live discussion via skype with members around the world.

The book we discussed is filled with variety, so far we have gone through this half semester are as follows: The Girls, The Shipping News, Evicted: Poverty &Profit in the America City, My Name is Lucy Barton

Our Club runs whole year, only takes recess in July and August. We also feature movie for discussion.
Our objectives:
Discuss and share opinions about book
Encourage reading a broad range of books
Build international friendships
At the end of the year, we will discuss our next year’s whole book list

Geroge R.R. Martin used to say: A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies…The man who never reads live only one.
