Proposed by SLY Art Space, the project “2026 Being in Flux: Art and Social Engagement Program” centers on the question: “How can we find a truly livable place between ‘mobility’ and ‘relocation’?” This inquiry responds to the increasingly frequent movement of people and evolving imaginaries of dwelling in contemporary society. It not only touches upon individual life experiences, but also points to critical issues in contemporary urban development.
This exhibition extends its perspective to the two cities of Taoyuan and Hsinchu. Both have experienced rapid growth driven by industrial development and regional connectivity, continuously attracting people from diverse backgrounds and shaping dynamic and evolving demographic structures. Whether for work, education, entrepreneurship, or family reasons, people move between, settle in, and even resettle their lives across these two cities—interweaving cross-city trajectories and lived experiences.
Hsinchu is a city shaped by movement. Over the past decades, people from across Taiwan have gathered here due to the development of the science park and related industries, while an increasing number of migrant workers and new residents from abroad have also made this city their home. People from diverse backgrounds bring with them their own beliefs, skills, and culinary memories, gradually giving rise to new cultural intersections within the city. This series of events takes “mobility” as its guiding thread, exploring perspectives of faith and industry. Through talks, hands-on experiences, and shared stories, it seeks to understand how Hsinchu continues to evolve through the interweaving of different cultures and lived experiences.
