หอภาพถ่ายล้านนา จัดตั้งเพื่อเป็นศูนย์กลางในการจัดเก็บภาพถ่ายโบราณอันทรงคุณค่ารวมถึงข้อมูลต่างๆ ที่ประกอบในภาพถ่ายเหล่านั้น เพราะภายในภาพถ่ายโบราณของล้านนานั้นถูกบรรจุด้วยข้อมูลทางศาสตร์และศิลป์ในแขนงต่างๆ อย่างมากมาย นับเป็นองค์ความรู้ที่ประเมินค่ามิได้ของล้านนา นำมาจัดเก็บอย่างเป็นระบบ เพื่อเป็นแหล่งเรียนรู้และเผยแพร่สู่สาธรณชนในแง่ต่างๆ ที่เน้นไปใช้ประโยชน์สูงสุดของการนำข้อมูลต้นทุนทางวัฒนธรรมล้

🇬🇧 Featured Artist – Li Weijun
Chiang Mai House of Photography proudly presents Li Weijun,�the ninth and final artist featured in the exhibition “Description of Type • Likeness.”
Born in 1962, Li Weijun is a photographer from Yunnan Province, China.�He is a member of the China Photographers Association,�member of the Yunnan Photographers Association,�and Vice Chairman of the Xishuangbanna Photographers Association.
Li Weijun’s works focus on documenting ethnic cultures, rituals, and daily life in southern Yunnan,�particularly among the Blang (Bulang) people in the mountainous regions.�His images are deeply rooted in authenticity, combining emotional warmth with a poetic visual sense of place.
His photographs have been exhibited widely, including:

* Dali International Photo Festival (2010–2011)

Born in Qujing, Yunnan, in 1979, Li Zhi received his Master’s degree from the Beijing Film Academy�and currently lives and works in Kunming.
His photographic practice explores the philosophical boundaries between perception, reality, and identity.�Through his quiet and poetic imagery, Li Zhi questions the relationship between the visible and the invisible,�the real and the imagined.
His works have been exhibited at major international festivals and institutions, including:

Chiang Mai House of Photography proudly presents Shi Ming,�the seventh of nine participating artists in the exhibition “Description of Type • Likeness.”
Shi Ming is a prominent figure in contemporary Chinese photography.�He is a member of the China Photographers Association,�Honorary Vice Chairman of the Yunnan Photographers Association,�Vice Chairman of the Kunming Photographers Association,�and Chief Curator of the Xishuangbanna International Image Festival.�He is also a contract photographer for China National Geographic.
His photography reflects a deep understanding of humanity, nature, and time—�capturing both the serenity and tension of landscapes shaped by history and change.

Born in Chongqing, China, in 1968, Luo Dan graduated from the Sichuan Fine Art Academy in 1992.�He is recognized as one of China’s most influential contemporary photographers,�exploring the intersection of time, faith, and modern life through a deeply human and reflective lens.
Luo Dan has received numerous international awards, including:�🏆 Photography Artist of the Year (AAC Art China Awards, 2013)�🏆 Hou Dengke Documentary Photography Award (2011)�🏆 Outstanding Artist Gold Award – Lianzhou International Photo Festival (2008)�🏆 Best New Photographer – Dali International Photography Festival (2011)

Tashi Rodin is a renowned photographer from Shangri-La, Yunnan Province,�a member of the China Photographers Association,�and Chairman of the Shangri-La Photographers Association.
His photographic works document the landscapes, rituals, and human spirit of China’s highland regions,�often focusing on themes of belonging and the passage of time.�His celebrated series, “Quiet Shuodugang River – My Brothers and Sisters,” portrays the stillness and resilience of people living in the river valleys of Yunnan.

🇬🇧 Featured Artist – Luo Hengyu
Chiang Mai House of Photography proudly presents Luo Hengyu,�the fourth of nine participating artists in the exhibition “Description of Type • Likeness.”
Luo Hengyu, of Yi ethnicity, was born in Jinggu, Yunnan, in 1983.�He graduated from the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts in 2007,�taught at Pu’er College from 2010 to 2016, and has been working as a freelance photographer since.
His works explore the deep ties between ritual, belief, and identity among mountain communities in Southwest China.�Through his celebrated series “Mountain God Dancer,” Luo portrays traditional ceremonies with both reverence and visual intensity, blending ethnographic sensitivity with fine art aesthetics.

📸 นิทรรศการภาพถ่ายนานาชาติ “Description of Type • Likeness”

หอภาพถ่ายล้านนาได้จัดแสดงนิทรรศการภาพถ่ายนานาชาติ “Description of Type • Likeness” เพื่อนำเสนอผลงานที่สำรวจแนวคิดเกี่ยวกับ “แบบ” และ “ความเหมือน” ผ่านภาพบุคคล สถานที่ และสภาพแวดล้อมที่สะท้อนตัวตน ความสัมพันธ์ และบริบททางวัฒนธรรมในสังคมร่วมสมัย

“Description of Type • Likeness”
กล่าวถึงการถ่ายภาพเชิงประเภท (Typological Photography) ซึ่งเน้นการบันทึกสิ่งต่างๆ อย่างเป็นกลาง เรียบง่าย และแม่นยำ เพื่อมองเห็น “แบบ” และ “ลักษณะ” ของมนุษย์และโลกที่เราดำรงอยู่ร่วมกัน
แม้ภาพถ่ายแนวนี้จะดูสงบ เยือกเย็น และโดดเดี่ยว แต่แท้จริงแล้ว คือการสำรวจ “สภาพมนุษย์” ในความหมายที่กว้างกว่าใบหน้าและร่างกาย เป็นการตั้งคำถามถึงความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างคน วัฒนธรรม สิ่งแวดล้อม และตัวตนของเราเอง
ศิลปินในนิทรรศการนี้นำจิตวิญญาณของวัฒนธรรมตะวันออกและประสบการณ์ของตน มาสร้างผลงานภาพถ่ายที่ดูเรียบง่าย แต่แฝงไปด้วยความรู้สึกต่อ “ความเป็นมนุษย์” อย่างลึกซึ้ง ชวนให้ผู้ชมอ่านสิ่งที่ซ่อนอยู่ในความเงียบ และค้นพบความหมายที่ปรากฏผ่านสายตาของตนเอง

นิทรรศการนี้รวบรวมผลงานจากศิลปินจากต่างแดน เพื่อเปิดพื้นที่ให้ผู้ชมได้พิจารณาตีความด้วยสายตาและประสบการณ์ของตนเอง

📸 International Photography Exhibition “Description of Type • Likeness”

Chiang Mai House of Photography presents the international photography exhibition “Description of Type • Likeness,” featuring works that explore the concepts of “type” and “likeness” through portraits, environments, and places that reflect identity, relationships, and cultural contexts in contemporary society.

“Description of Type • Likeness” refers to Typological Photography, which emphasizes a neutral, simple, and precise method of recording. This approach seeks to observe and recognize the forms and characteristics that define both humans and the shared world we inhabit.

Although this photographic style may appear calm, restrained, or even detached, it is, in fact, a profound investigation into the human condition—beyond physical features—questioning how people relate to one another, to culture, to environments, and to the self.

The artists featured in this exhibition draw upon the spirit of Eastern culture and their personal experiences to create works that may appear understated at first glance, yet are deeply resonant with a sense of humanity. The photographs invite the viewer to read what lies within silence, and to discover meaning through their own act of seeing.

This exhibition brings together works from international artists, offering a space where viewers are encouraged to observe, reflect, and interpret through their own perspectives and experiences.

🇬🇧 Featured Artist – Xu Yunhua
Chiang Mai House of Photography proudly presents Xu Yunhua,
the third of nine participating artists in the exhibition “Description of Type • Likeness.”
Xu Yunhua, of Lahu ethnicity, is a member of the China Photographers Association,
Vice-Chairman of the Yunnan Photographers Association,
and Art Director of the Xishuangbanna International Foto Festival.
He graduated in Photography from the School of Journalism and Communication, Wuhan University,
and has long been a key figure in contemporary Chinese photography,
especially in developing visual culture in Southwest China.
His works explore themes of faith, identity, and belonging,
offering a deeply human perspective on the coexistence between tradition and modern life.
Major works include:
