The body of work titled "Obvious Absencer" by Eiair invites us to transcend the human-centric worldview and shift toward perceiving "the small"—a dimension of reality that our contemporary awareness often forgets and overlooks.
This collection is akin to a miniature simulation of "the entire world," born from a wondrous, primordial process resembling the birth of the universe. As earth merges with water, it is meticulously hand-formed, air-dried by the wind, and forged through the fire of a 1250°C kiln. The power of these four elements transforms soft porcelain clay into objects both resilient and fragile, mirroring the delicate balance of our ecosystem. In an era where humanity is disconnected from nature and habituated to fleeting conveniences, Eiair employs a craft-oriented attitude.
Through the meticulous technique of slip dotting, he populates the work with infinite details, prompting contemporary viewers to awaken their senses—restoring the profound interplay between sight and touch—while fostering a critical awareness of the societal issues that stem from neglecting our surroundings.
We are invited to softly wander and observe the nooks, crannies, and unexpected corners where these artworks camouflage and permeate in absolute silence. If you walk past this present reality without noticing... the question remains: is it the artwork that is missing, or is it we ourselves who are fading, losing awareness of the fragile world right before our eyes? Let us step closer, zoom in, and reconnect with these hidden molecules of life together.
Eiair is one of the featured artists currently exhibiting his work in the 'Shared Sensibilities' exhibition at the Ratchadamnoen Contemporary Art Center (RCAC).
The exhibition is running until mid-September in Bangkok. If you happen to be in Bangkok during this time, I would like to invite you to come by and experience these shared sensibilities with us.
