"Traces Within Chaos : This mixed-media work explores the question of "the cycle of creation and accumulation that has no end." Humans continuously create things, again and again—objects, information, conflicts, and rules. Yet, ultimately, these creations return to us, generating confusion and becoming part of our own identity. Fabric, letters, and traces of color within the work are compared to the "traces of human struggle"—a reflection of humanity's endless search for a sense of self amid the chaos that we ourselves have created."— Boonkerd Kaewdee ( Luka )

"My work is inspired by flowers, plants, and the quiet presence of nature, created using traditional Japanese painting materials.

Nature transcends cultural and geographical boundaries. It connects people through shared experiences of seasons, landscapes, and memory. I am drawn to the vitality and fleeting beauty of plants, and through them I seek to express emotions and the passage of time that cannot easily be conveyed in words.

Alongside traditional Nihonga materials such as mineral pigments and Japanese paper, I sometimes incorporate natural materials—including local soil and sand collected from places I have encountered. By layering these elements, I explore the relationship between people, nature, and the memories embedded within each landscape.

Living in Thailand for four years profoundly expanded my perspective on nature. Although I am now based in Miyakojima, Japan, the plants and landscapes I encountered in Thailand continue to influence my work, existing alongside memories of my current surroundings. I hope my paintings invite viewers to connect with their own memories and experiences, creating a quiet dialogue between people and the natural world." — Kanae Shimoji

"My work explores the idea of things we long to touch but cannot.

Flowers, fish, and insects are familiar yet distant presences. Their beauty and fragility evoke the feeling of looking through a television screen—visible, yet forever just beyond reach. For me, this distance reflects the nature of memory, human relationships, and the passage of time.

Living in Thailand has transformed the way I observe everyday life. Experiencing another culture as a foreign resident has made me increasingly aware of subtle differences, fleeting moments, and quiet discoveries, all of which have become important sources of inspiration for my work. Through layered colors, organic lines, and symbolic motifs, I seek to give form to emotions and memories that cannot easily be expressed in words.

Rather than presenting a single narrative, I hope my work quietly resonates with each viewer's own memories and experiences, allowing new stories to emerge." — HANA

“Why Walk When You Can Fly” is the title of a song by Mary Chapin Carpenter that I first heard as a teenager. The song has stayed with me ever since. Whenever I find myself thinking that something could go further, or become more than what seems immediately possible, I return to that phrase and tell myself, “Why not?”

This exhibition is, in many ways, a leap into making art with that same sense of courage, curiosity, and playfulness. I approached these works with a willingness to experiment, to take risks, and to follow ideas wherever they might lead. More than anything, I wanted the process to remain joyful—to make work freely, to stay curious, and to enjoy the unexpected discoveries along the way.

Creating these pieces has reminded me why I make art in the first place. It makes me want to wake up each day and return to the studio. And perhaps that is the most important reason I continue to make art.

The exhibition also includes a ceramic sculpture by Ting Chu, inspired by one of the artworks in this series. Seeing an idea take on a new form through another artist’s imagination has been one of the unexpected joys of this project. - Koi Sakunee
