A field of Akha textiles fills the ground floor of “The Preservation of Fire” by Busui Ajaw.

Over four years, Busui Ajaw collected traditional Akha fabrics and garments, many of them recovered from graves. Today, these textiles are almost exclusively found in burial contexts, as the knowledge and craft of making them gradually disappears.

Working with a community of Akha weavers, the artist stitched the found fabrics together into one large field. Shirts, bags, trousers, and embroidered fragments remain embedded within it, carrying traces of the people who once wore them and the histories held in their patterns.

The work is both a gathering and a record—of material, memory, and a tradition at risk of being lost.

“The Preservation of Fire” is on view through 1 November 2026 at Bangkok Kunsthalle.

ทุ่งผืนผ้าทออาข่า ในพื้นที่ชั้นล่างของนิทรรศการ “The Preservation of Fire” โดย บู้ซือ อาจอ

ตลอดระยะเวลากว่า 4 ปี ศิลปินรวบรวมผ้าทอและเครื่องแต่งกายอาข่าแบบดั้งเดิม หลายชิ้นถูกกู้คืนมาจากเจ้าของที่ลาจากไปแล้ว ปัจจุบันสิ่งทอเหล่านี้แทบจะพบได้เฉพาะในบริบทของการฝังศพ เนื่องด้วยองค์ความรู้และทักษะในการสร้างสรรค์ผ้าทอเหล่านี้กำลังเลือนหายไป

บู้ซือ ทำงานร่วมกับชุมชนช่างทอชาวอาข่า นำผ้าที่ค้นพบมาต่อเย็บเข้าด้วยกัน จนกลายเป็นผืนผ้าขนาดใหญ่ เสื้อ กระเป๋า กางเกง และเศษผ้าที่มีลวดลายปักถูกเย็บติดกับผืนผ้า ถ่ายทอดร่องรอยของผู้คนที่เคยสวมใส่ รวมถึงเรื่องราวและประวัติศาสตร์ที่ถูกบันทึกไว้ในลวดลายเหล่านั้น ผลงานชิ้นนี้จึงเป็นดั่งการรวบรวมและการบันทึกของวัสดุ ความทรงำ และขนบธรรมเนียมที่กำลังสูญหาย

Thank you to everyone who took part in the “Urban Fragments: a Soundwalk, Workshop & Performance” workshop last Sunday, 16 August 2026.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Jakob Sinn and Watsaphol Suwannasaksin for leading all participants on a journey to collect sound materials through the soundscape of Yaowarat and the surrounding areas of Bangkok Kunsthalle. These sounds were then transformed into an improvised, site-specific musical performance, allowing sounds from different sources to tell their stories through the sound collectors and the context of the place.

Bangkok Kunsthalle would like to thank the artists of ppp, as well as all participants and everyone involved in making this event possible, for coming together to create this memorable soundwalk experience.

Bangkok Kunsthalle was delighted to welcome students from the International Program in Communication Design, School of Architecture and Design, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, for a visit to the space and its exhibitions on 13 August 2026.

During the visit, the students and faculty explored the exhibitions currently on view, including “The Preservation of Fire” by artist Busui Ajaw, “Mooring” by artists Arisa Purkpong, Kay Zhang, Tanat Teeradakorn, and Vanessa Bosch curated by Thapong Srisai, and “Spirits Melt to Flesh” by eight Asian artists, curated by Sam I-Shan. The visit also included presentations by our team.

Bangkok Kunsthalle is not only an artist-driven art institution presenting a diverse range of exhibitions and public programmes, but also seeks to expand the boundaries of contemporary art and serve as a focal point of creative dialogue. It aims to contribute to the development and circulation of ideas, information, and stories, bringing them together with artistic skills and contemporary forms of communication.

Watch together works by artists Arisa Purkpong, Kay Zhang, and Vanessa Bosch on the big screen. “Mooring” features works from four artists, three of which include moving image pieces, on Sunday, 23 August 2026 at Bangkok Kunsthalle.

This screening offers a chance to experience these works together in our screening room, with a larger projection and surround sound, an occasion distinct from encountering them within the exhibition space, where they sit alongside installation and other accompanying works.

Those interested are welcome to attend the screening without prior registration. Please note that seating is limited.

“Mooring” is the inaugural program of “Open Ground”, a platform that supports experimental artistic practices and fosters the potential of emerging Thai artists and curators. The program welcomes art projects across all forms, disciplines, and mediums. The exhibition is supported by the Office of Contemporary Art Norway, Pro-Helvetia Swiss Art Council, Ghost Foundation, OPENFIELD, and Bangkok Kunsthalle.

Thank you to everyone who joined the talk by Takuro Tamayama, Bangkok Kunsthalle’s artist-in-residence, on 8 August 2026.

We would like to thank Takuro Tamayama for taking the audience through his artistic journey, revisiting key works from his practice and sharing the concepts and processes behind them, as well as the ideas and possibilities he is currently exploring during his residency. His works explore space and volume through the interplay of light, architecture, and gravity. Looking retrospectively at his previous works, the talk revealed how these elements come together to shape our perception and experience of space.

Join us for a screening of “Drive My Car” as part of the “Sunday Cinema” program on Sunday, 16 August 2026, 5:30 PM.

How do you keep living after an unimaginable loss? When a widowed theatre director is assigned a young chauffeur, an unexpected friendship slowly unfolds as they travel together each day. “Drive My Car” is a quietly profound journey through grief, love, and the unexpected ways we find our way back to one another.

The film has a runtime of 179 minutes and will be screened in its original language with Thai and English subtitles.

Important: Ticketmelon ticket holders, please scan and check in at least 30 minutes before showtime (5 PM) to secure your seats. Walk-in registration opens at 5 PM. Any reserved seats not claimed by 10 minutes before the screening will be released to walk-ins, subject to availability.

Thank you to everyone who joined the lecture by Paloma Martín Llopis, Artistic Director at Mutua Madrileña Foundation, on Thursday, 6 August 2026.

During the lecture, Paloma took the audience through her professional journey across various roles in galleries, foundations, and art institutions, before sharing her experience of developing cultural projects from the ground up—from shaping physical spaces to establishing their conceptual foundations. As the Mutua Madrileña Foundation prepares to move into its new home, Paloma also offers insights into the many dimensions of working in the arts, from curatorial approaches to cultural management, opening up broader and more diverse perspectives on the art world.

We would like to extend our thanks once again to Paloma Martín Llopis for sharing these fascinating stories and offering new perspectives and practices that continue to shape and drive the world of contemporary art.
