On this Buddhist holy day, August 21, 2026, Mr. Boonchai Bencharongkul takes us across the "Passage Across the Universe" and into The Three Kingdoms.

The Three Kingdoms explores three realms of existence. The Celestial Realm, The Human Realm and The Unfortunate Realm reflecting Buddhist ideas about life, our actions, and the path toward freedom from suffering.

Mr. Boonchai leaves us with a simple reminder: "never forget the people we love, those who have supported us, and the companions who share our journey. And along the way, remember to cultivate merit for ourselves, so that we may live with greater understanding and less suffering"

Step into the surreal world of Prateep Kochabua with Mr. Boonchai at MOCA BANGKOK.

In this short video, Mr. Boonchai introduces paintings that reveal Prateep’s distinctive sense of humor and his fascination with Thai culture and beliefs.

In “Dream land,” Prateep playfully imagines what one might do when left alone on an island, while “Good Dream” draws from a familiar Thai belief.

Through surreal imagery, humor, and storytelling, Prateep transforms everyday beliefs and cultural references into imaginative worlds that invite us to look at Thai culture from a different perspective.

เมื่อม้านั่งในพิพิธภัณฑ์...
ไม่ได้มีไว้แค่นั่ง

เวลาพูดถึงงานศิลปะในพิพิธภัณฑ์ เรามักถูกสอนให้ "มอง" มองภาพ มองประติมากรรม มองรายละเอียด และที่สำคัญคือ "ห้ามจับ" แต่มีงานศิลปะอยู่ชิ้นหนึ่งที่ไม่ได้ต้องการให้คุณเพียงมอง หากกลับเชื้อเชิญให้คุณเข้าไปสัมผัส นั่งลง ใช้งาน และใช้เวลาอยู่กับมันอย่างเป็นธรรมชาติ หากคุณเคยเดินชม MOCA Museum of Contemporary Art จนเมื่อยล้า แล้วสะดุดตากับม้านั่งไม้ที่ตั้งอยู่กลางห้องจัดแสดง คุณอาจหยุดมองมันอยู่ครู่หนึ่งก่อนจะนั่งลง เพราะดีไซน์ของมันไม่ได้ทำหน้าที่แค่รองรับร่างกาย แต่ยังดึงสายตาและความสนใจของผู้ชมไว้ได้อย่างเงียบ ๆ จนทำให้การนั่งลงครั้งนั้นไม่ใช่แค่การพักขา ก่อนจะลุกขึ้นไปชมภาพวาดชิ้นถัดไป แต่ความจริงแล้ว สิ่งที่คุณกำลังนั่งอยู่ ไม่ใช่แค่ม้านั่ง หากเป็นงานประติมากรรมที่ถูกสร้างขึ้นให้มีชีวิตผ่านการใช้งาน

ม้านั่งทุกตัวภายในพิพิธภัณฑ์คือผลงานของ Saiyart Collection ที่สร้างสรรค์โดยอาจารย์ไสยาสน์ เสมาเงิน ศิลปินและช่างไม้ผู้เชื่อว่า ศิลปะไม่จำเป็นต้องอยู่หลังเชือกกั้นหรือป้าย "ห้ามจับ" เสมอไป ศิลปะสามารถเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของชีวิตประจำวัน รองรับน้ำหนักของผู้คน และสร้างบทสนทนาระหว่างผู้สร้างกับผู้ใช้ได้ในทุกครั้งที่มีใครสักคนนั่งลง แนวคิดนี้ทำให้ม้านั่งทุกตัวไม่ได้เป็นเพียงเฟอร์นิเจอร์ประกอบฉากของพิพิธภัณฑ์ แต่เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของประสบการณ์ในการเสพงานศิลปะอย่างแท้จริง

หากสังเกตให้ดี คุณจะพบว่าไม่มีม้านั่งตัวไหนเหมือนกันเลย บางตัวเผยแนวเสี้ยนไม้ที่ไหลต่อเนื่องราวกับสายน้ำ บางตัวปล่อยให้ปมไม้ รอยแตก และวงปี กลายเป็นส่วนหนึ่งขององค์ประกอบ รูปทรงที่เห็นไม่ได้เกิดจากความต้องการสร้างความแปลกใหม่ แต่เกิดจากความเข้าใจในธรรมชาติของไม้ เพราะอาจารย์ไสยาสน์ไม่เคยมองว่าไม้เป็นเพียงวัตถุดิบที่ต้องถูกบังคับให้เป็นไปตามแบบ หากมองว่าไม้แต่ละแผ่นมีบุคลิกของตัวเอง หน้าที่ของช่างจึงไม่ใช่การเอาชนะวัสดุ แต่คือการรับฟังและดึงความงามที่ซ่อนอยู่ในเนื้อไม้ให้ออกมามากที่สุด

นั่นคือเหตุผลที่ผลงานของ Saiyart ให้ความรู้สึกแตกต่างจากเฟอร์นิเจอร์ทั่วไป เพราะไม้ไม่ได้ถูกใช้เพียงเพื่อสร้างสิ่งของ แต่ถูกยกระดับให้เป็นสื่อกลางของศิลปะ ผู้ที่นั่งลงจึงไม่ได้สัมผัสเพียงพื้นผิวของม้านั่ง หากยังสัมผัสถึงอุณหภูมิของไม้ ลายเสี้ยนที่ธรรมชาติใช้เวลาหลายสิบปีสร้างขึ้น และรายละเอียดเล็ก ๆ ที่ไม่มีเครื่องจักรใดผลิตซ้ำได้เหมือนกันทุกประการ

สิ่งที่น่าสนใจที่สุดคือ งานประติมากรรมชิ้นนี้ไม่ได้สมบูรณ์ในวันที่สร้างเสร็จ แต่มันค่อย ๆ สมบูรณ์ขึ้นจากการใช้งานของผู้คน รอยสัมผัส ความเงาที่เกิดจากกาลเวลา หรือสีของไม้ที่ค่อย ๆ ลุ่มลึกขึ้น ล้วนกลายเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของผลงาน นี่คือเสน่ห์ที่ทำให้ไม้แตกต่างจากวัสดุอีกหลายชนิด เพราะไม้เป็นวัสดุที่ยังคงบันทึกเรื่องราวของกาลเวลาเอาไว้บนตัวเอง ยิ่งใช้งาน ยิ่งมีเรื่องราว และยิ่งมีคุณค่า

ครั้งต่อไป หากคุณมีโอกาสไปเยือน MOCA ลองใช้เวลาสักครู่กับม้านั่งเหล่านั้น อย่าเพียงมองว่ามันคือที่นั่งพักระหว่างการชมภาพวาด แต่ลองใช้มือลูบไปตามลายเสี้ยนของไม้ แล้วคุณอาจค้นพบว่า สิ่งที่อยู่ใต้ปลายนิ้วไม่ใช่เพียงเฟอร์นิเจอร์ หากเป็นงานประติมากรรมที่ยังคงมีชีวิต และยังคงบอกเล่าเรื่องราวผ่านผู้คนทุกคนที่เข้ามาสัมผัสมัน

เนื่องในวันที่ 12 สิงหาคม เป็นวันแม่แห่งชาติ

MOCA BANGKOK ขอชวนทุกคนร่วมมองความหมายของความรัก ความอ่อนโยน และสายสัมพันธ์ระหว่างแม่กับลูก ผ่านผลงาน "Maternal Love" โดย Émile Munier, 1840–1895

Émile Munier เป็นศิลปินชาวฝรั่งเศสผู้มีความเชี่ยวชาญด้านศิลปะตามหลักวิชา หรือ Academic Art ผลงานของเขามักถ่ายทอดเรื่องราวของเด็กและครอบครัว ผ่านรอยยิ้ม ความผูกพัน และบรรยากาศอันอบอุ่นของชีวิตประจำวันที่เรียบง่าย

ผลงาน "Maternal Love" สร้างขึ้นในปี ค.ศ. 1885 ถ่ายทอดช่วงเวลาอันอ่อนโยนระหว่างแม่กับลูก และสะท้อนถึงความรักอันบริสุทธิ์ซึ่งไม่เปลี่ยนแปลงไปตามกาลเวลา

ผลงานจัดแสดงภายในห้อง Richard Green ชั้น 5 ซึ่งรวบรวมผลงานศิลปะยุควิกตอเรียไว้ให้ผู้ชมได้สัมผัสอย่างใกล้ชิด

On the occasion of August 12, Thailand’s National Mother’s Day.

"Maternal Love" by French artist Émile Munier (1840–1895), he was known for his accomplished Academic style and his sensitive portrayals of children and family life.

His paintings often convey warmth and harmony through gentle expressions, affectionate relationships, and simple moments of everyday life.

Painted in 1885, Maternal Love captures an intimate moment between a mother and her child, reflecting a pure and timeless form of love.

The painting is displayed at the Richard Green Room on the 5th floor, MOCA BANGKOK, alongside a collection of Victorian era artworks.
