[EN Below]
Site-Specific Performance
Object-Generated Choreography

“Siam Si” Explores the Body, Objects, and Belief
A Site-Specific Performance by Jitti Chompee at the Jim Thompson House Museum
30 August 2026, 6:00 PM | Jim Thompson House Museum
A Members’ Exclusive Performance, Limited to 30 Guests
The James H.W. Thompson Foundation presents Siam Si, a work by Jitti Chompee, choreographer and contemporary performance artist. Previously presented in different contexts and locations, Siam Si is brought to the Jim Thompson House Museum in a site-specific adaptation, developed by the artist in dialogue with the museum’s architecture, atmosphere, and cultural context.
The performance will take place on 30 August 2026 at 6:00 PM.
The concept of Siam Si originates from Jitti Chompee’s ongoing artistic exploration of the relationships between the body, objects, belief, and social behaviour through a creative methodology he calls Object-Generated Choreography.
At the centre of the work is the siam si, or fortune-telling sticks, an object familiar within Thai culture and traditionally associated with divination. Jitti shifts the siam si beyond its conventional role as an object of belief, allowing it to act as a choreographic agent that generates rhythm, sound, uncertainty, and physical responses from the performers.
For its presentation at the Jim Thompson House Museum, Jitti adapts the existing concept and choreographic framework of Siam Si in response to the particular context of the site, a place where histories, beliefs, craftsmanship, art, and cultural encounters coexist.
The layers of Buddhist, Christian, Islamic, and Hindu influences found throughout the house provide an additional context through which the artist approaches this iteration of the work. Rather than redefining the original concept, the museum setting allows Siam Si to enter into a new relationship with the architecture, objects, and atmosphere of the house.
Movement emerges through an encounter between the body, the object, and the surrounding environment, with each contributing to and shaping the movement of the others.
Presenting Siam Si within the Jim Thompson House Museum therefore offers audiences an opportunity to experience both the work and the museum through a new relationship, one in which bodies, objects, memories, and beliefs enter into dialogue within the space.
