“Mystical” by Nattiwut Choomanowat

If you've ever heard sayings like "the last piece is for having the beautiful girlfriend," "don't sing while eating," or "if you don't want it to rain, go to put lemongrass in the ground," and many others, some are stratagems, some have hidden reasons, and some are just passed down without knowing their true origins.
Nattiwut Choomanowat welcomes everyone to the land of miracles, where we all grow up and live our lives in a rush, leaving no time to pause or question the puzzling stories we have all nodded, listened to, and followed, passing these beliefs from generation to generation. In the exhibition "Mystical," through Nattiwut's perspective, an artist who often questions the Thai way of life with humorous characters and his unique brushwork throughout his contemporary painting career, the doubts are raised for us to reconsider the long-held beliefs once again. We may encounter fear and goodwill, as well as some aspects of thinking meant to teach and admonish, hidden in seemingly trivial matters. Yet, these are more deeply ingrained in us than we realize.
Because sometimes, the intrigue may not lie in proving whether the entire story is true or not.
If it is merely a question of why we have believed in these stratagems until now.

ถ้าคุณเคยได้ยินคำกล่าวที่ว่า ชิ้นสุดท้ายแฟนสวย ห้ามร้องเพลงระหว่างทานข้าว หรือหากไม่อยากให้ฝนตก จงลุกไปปักตะไคร้ และอื่น ๆ อีกมากมาย บ้างเป็นกุศโลบาย บ้างก็มีเหตุผลซ่อนอยู่ บ้างก็รู้แค่เพียงว่าเขาบอกต่อกันมา โดยไม่รู้ที่มาที่ไปของมันอย่างแท้จริง
ณัฐิวุฒิ ชูมะโนวัฒน์ ยินดีต้อนรับทุกท่านเข้าสู่ดินแดนแห่งปาฏิหาริย์ที่เราต่างเติบโตและใช้ชีวิตอย่างเร่งรีบ จนไม่อาจมีเวลาฉุกคิดหรือตั้งคำถามได้ทันกับเรื่องราวชวนฉงนที่เราต่างเคยพยักหน้า รับฟัง และปฏิบัติตาม กระทั่งส่งต่อความเชื่อเหล่านั้นรุ่นสู่รุ่น ในนิทรรศการ Mystical ผ่านมุมมองของณัฐิวุฒิ ศิลปินผู้มักตั้งคำถามต่อความเป็นอยู่และวิถีชีวิตแบบไทย ๆ ด้วยตัวละครที่ขบขัน ผ่านฝีแปรงอันเป็นเอกลักษณ์ตลอดระยะเวลาของการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานจิตรกรรมร่วมสมัย เมื่อความสงสัยถูกหยิบยกขึ้นมาวิพากษ์ให้เราได้ทบทวนสิ่งที่เชื่อสืบต่อกันมาเนิ่นนานอีกครั้ง เราอาจพบกับความหวาดกลัวและความหวังดี ตลอดจนบางแง่มุมของวิธีคิดเพื่อสั่งสอนตักเตือน ซึ่งซ่อนอยู่ในเรื่องเล็ก ๆ ที่ดูเหมือนไม่มีสาระสำคัญอะไร แต่แท้จริงแล้ว สิ่งเหล่านี้กลับถูกปลูกฝังให้อยู่ในตัวเรามากกว่าที่คิด
เพราะบางครั้ง ความน่าสนใจอาจไม่ใช่การพิสูจน์ว่าเรื่องราวทั้งหมดเป็นจริงหรือไม่
หากเป็นเพียงการตั้งคำถามว่าเพราะเหตุใด เราจึงเชื่อกุศโลบายเหล่านี้มาจวบจนปัจจุบัน
