Leta 2021 je UIS (ustanovljen leta 1965 v Postojni) razglasila za Mednarodno leto jam in krasa. Kot nadgradnjo tega dogodka pa je UIS v sodelovanju s Slovensko nacionalno komisijo za Unesco pripravila uradni predlog, da Unesco razglasi 13. september za Mednarodni dan jam in krasa (International Day of Caves and Karst, IDCK).
To bo vsakoletni dogodek po vsem svetu, namenjen izobraลพevanju, varstvu in osveลกฤanju javnosti o jamah in krasu. ๐ฆโฐ๏ธ
Pobuda UIS-a za razglasitev Mednarodnega dne jam in krasa je v postopku pri sekretariatu Unesca. Pisno jo je podprlo ลพe 15 mednarodnih in 8 regionalnih organizacij, 38 drลพav ฤlanic UIS ter 88 nacionalnih organizacij in institucij.
Dne 29. maja letos je vlada Republike Slovenije uradno podprla pobudo UIS-a in aktivno lobira za podporo pri drugih drลพavah ฤlanicah Unesca. ฤaka nas ลกe potrditev na izvrลกnem odboru Unesca ta mesec in na generalni skupลกฤini v novembru.
Skupลกฤina UIS je na sreฤanju v okviru Mednarodnega jamarskega kongresa v Braziliji julija letos sprejela sklep, da v internem krogu, zaenkrat ลกe brez formalne podpore Unesca, prviฤ ลพe letos obeleลพimo Mednarodni dan jam in krasa.

V imenu Urada UIS z veseljem sporoฤamo, da je bila z ustanovitvijo spletne strani ๐ http://www.caveskarstday.org, ki je nastala s posebno podporo Bรคrbel Vogel, vzpostavljena platforma za promocijo Mednarodnega dneva jam in krasa (IDCK), ki ga UIS razglasi na zadnjem ICS in ga vsako leto praznujemo 13. septembra.

In 2021, the UIS (founded in 1965 in Postojna, Slovenia) declared the International Year of Caves and Karst. As a continuation of this initiative, the UIS, in cooperation with the Slovenian National Commission for UNESCO, prepared an official proposal for UNESCO to declare September 13th as the International Day of Caves and Karst (IDCK).
This will be an annual worldwide event dedicated to education, conservation, and raising public awareness about caves and karst. ๐ฆโฐ๏ธ
The UIS initiative for the proclamation of the International Day of Caves and Karst is currently under review at the UNESCO Secretariat. It has already received written support from 15 international and 8 regional organisations, 38 UIS member countries, and 88 national organisations and institutions.
On May 29th this year, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia officially endorsed the UIS initiative and is actively lobbying for support among other UNESCO member states. The proposal still awaits confirmation by the UNESCO Executive Board this month and the General Assembly in November.
At the UIS General Assembly held during the International Congress of Speleology in Brazil this July, it was decided that, within the UIS community, we will mark the International Day of Caves and Karst for the first time this year.

On behalf of the UIS Bureau, we are pleased to announce that the website ๐ http://www.caveskarstday.org was established with the special support of Bรคrbel Vogel to promote the International Day of Caves and Karst (IDCK), proclaimed during the last ICS and celebrated annually on September 13th.
๐ฅ On the 13th of September, a dedicated video will be released on the IDCK website.
