Today is the final day of Beyond Resilience at ART KL 2026 (.kl.official_ ).
If you haven’t yet visited, this is your last opportunity to see Intersections Gallery’s presentation of Chuu Wai ( ) and Kyaw Htoo Bala () at APW Bangsar.

Encounter Chuu Wai’s Weaving a New Life, where traditional weaving becomes a language of memory and exile, alongside Kyaw Htoo Bala’s Maung Maung, a series questioning the idea of resilience and the desire for a simple, ordinary existence.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who has visited Beyond Resilience so far. Your time, thoughtful conversations, and engagement with the artists’ works have made this presentation especially meaningful. We look forward to welcoming more visitors on this final day.

Who is Maung Maung?

Since the era of the Burma Socialist Programme Party in 1962, “Maung Maung” has been used as a generic name in Myanmar classrooms. Whatever your real name might be, for a school exercise or essay, you could become “Maung Maung.”

For Kyaw Htoo Bala (), this familiar fictional figure became the protagonist of his latest series.

Maung Maung represents an ordinary person caught within extraordinary circumstances. He does not want to become a symbol. He does not want to be defined by conflict. He simply wants to live an ordinary life - to study, work, make art, have a family, and worry about everyday things.

At ART KL 2026 (.kl.official_), meet Maung Maung.

In Exile, Weaving a New Life

Chuu Wai's () portraits of women are characterised by pride and dignity, while questioning traditional roles imposed on women in Myanmar society.

Using the longyi, a traditional Myanmar garment, as her canvas, Chuu transforms a familiar textile into a space for exploring gender, identity, and social expectations.

For BEYOND RESILIENCE at ART KL 2026 (.kl.official_ ), Intersections Gallery presents portraits on fabric alongside works from Weaving a New Life, a series that emerged from the artist's forced exile following her participation in the Burma Spring resistance movement after the February 2021 military coup.

Through weaving, photography, and fabric, Chuu transforms displacement into a meditation on memory, identity, and survival.

Explore Chuu Wai's fabric works from Weaving a New Life, where threads, photographs, and traditional craft become a meditation on exile, memory, and belonging.

Alongside them, discover Kyaw Htoo Bala's Maung Maung series - paintings that question the expectation of resilience and imagine the possibility of an ordinary life beyond conflict and displacement.

Kyaw Htoo Bala's () Maung Maung introduces a fictional everyman who questions the language of “resilience” and dreams of something much simpler: a peaceful, ordinary life.

This is the final weekend to experience Jonas Lam’s Shadows of the Past, Silence of the Present in Paris.

Spanning a decade of photographic practice, the exhibition takes us from Antarctica and the Drake Passage to the Falkland Islands and Lake Geneva, exploring landscapes shaped by history, memory and human presence.

FROM ANTARCTICA TO LAKE GENEVA

Ten years after his first Antarctic expedition, Jonas Lam turned his camera towards the place where he lives.
The serene waters of Lake Geneva, often associated with beauty and tranquillity, become something less certain in Lam’s recent foggy images.

What stories lie beneath the surface?
What memories? What joys? What pain?
The artist offers no answers.

Instead, the fog becomes a metaphor - a veil between what we see and what we remember.

Lam’s journey from Antarctica to Switzerland ultimately becomes an exploration of his own artistic practice and the experiences carried throughout life.
