Avesta Art 2026 – Earthly Bodies Born of Love öppnar den 23 maj. Nu presenterar vi konstnärerna i årets Avesta Art.
Selma Selman (f. 1991, Bosnien och Hercegovina) är konstnär med romsk bakgrund som arbetar med performance, video, skulptur och installation. Hennes praktik tar ofta avstamp i hennes familjs arbete med skrotåtervinning. Genom detta undersöker hon frågor om värde, arbete, kön, identitet och motstånd.
På Avesta Art visas en videoversion av verket Motherboards. I verket synliggör Selman hur teknologiskt avfall, kroppsligt arbete och ekonomiska system hänger samman. “Motherboards” knyter an till utställningens tematik genom att visa hur både industriella och digitala system bygger på utvinning, återbruk och osynligt arbete – och hur dessa system får konkreta konsekvenser för människor och deras livsvillkor.

Selma Selman (b. 1991, Bosnia and Herzegovina) is an artist of Romani origin working with performance, video, sculpture, and installation. Her practice often stems from her family’s work in scrap metal recycling. Through this, she investigates questions of value, labor, gender, identity, and resistance.
At Avesta Art, a video version of the performance work “Motherboards” is presented. Here, Selman makes visible the connections between technological waste, physical labor, and economic systems. “Motherboards” relates to the exhibition’s theme by showing how both industrial and digital systems are built on extraction, recycling, and invisible labor—and how these systems have concrete consequences for people and their living conditions.
