وُلد أحمد نوار في مصر عام 1945، ويُعدّ من أبرز رواد الفن المصري والعربي الحديث والمعاصر، ومن الفنانين الذين جمعوا بين الممارسة الإبداعية والتأثير الأكاديمي والمؤسسي على امتداد أكثر من ستة عقود.
حصل على درجة الأستاذية في الرسم من أكاديمية سان فرناندو الملكية للفنون الجميلة في مدريد، وأسّس كلية الفنون الجميلة بجامعة المنيا يمصر، وأسهم في تكوين أجيال من الفنانين. وامتدت تجربته بين الرسم والتصوير والجرافيك والنحت والتجهيز وفن الفيديو. في ممارسة تقوم على البحث والتجريب وتطوير لغة بصرية متفردة.
وامتد تأثير نوار إلى العمل الثقافي المؤسسي؛ فأسّس ترينالي مصر الدولي لفن الجرافيك، وأسهم في إنشاء وتطوير عدد من المتاحف المصرية، من بينها متحف التحنيط بالاقصر متحف الخزف الإسلامي بالقاهرة، كما اختارته اليونسكو خبيرًا للمتاحف. وشارك في معارض وفعاليات فنية عربية ودولية، واقتُنيت أعماله من قِبل متاحف ومؤسسات حول العالم.
حصد نوار أكثر من 27 جائزة محلية ودولية، من بينها جائزة الدولة التقديرية وجائزة النيل للفنون. وتقديرًا لإسهاماته الفنية والثقافية، مُنح أوسمة رفيعة من رؤساء دول وحكومات مصر وفرنسا وإسبانيا وروسيا، في تكريم يعكس المكانة الدولية لمسيرته.
وشكّلت تجربة الحرب منعطفًا جوهريًا في مسيرته الفنية، وظل أثرها حاضرًا في تأملاته حول الإنسان والذاكرة والإرادة. تحولت مشاهد الحرب وذكرياتها إلى مفردات بصرية تتشابك فيها الحركة والبناء والإيقاع ضمن تكوينات كثيفة مشحونة بالحركة، تجمع بين الصرامة الهندسية والانفعال الإنساني، وتتأرجح بين التشخيص والتجريد.
في فريز لندن 2026، يقدّم أحمد نوار أعمالًا واسعة النطاق من سلسلة «إرادة وطن»، حيث تتقاطع تجربته الفردية مع الذاكرة الجماعية، ولا تعود الحرب مجرد حدث تاريخي، بل أثرًا ممتدًا في الجسد والصورة والذاكرة، واستكشافًا مستمرًا معاني الصمود والإرادة والبقاء.

Ahmed Nawar, born in Egypt in 1945 and is regarded as one of the leading pioneers of modern and contemporary Egyptian and Arab art. Over a career spanning more than six decades, he has combined a sustained creative practice with significant academic and institutional influence.
He earned a professorship degree in painting from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid and founded the Faculty of Fine Arts at Minia University in Egypt, contributing to the education and development of generations of artists. His multidisciplinary practice spans drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, installation, and video art, and is grounded in continuous research, experimentation, and the development of a distinctive visual language.
Nawar’s influence has also extended into cultural and institutional work. He founded the Egypt International Triennale of Graphic Art and contributed to the establishment and development of several Egyptian museums, including the Mummification Museum in Luxor and the Museum of Islamic Ceramics in Cairo. He was also selected by UNESCO as a museum expert. Nawar has participated in exhibitions and artistic events across the Arab world and internationally, and his works have been acquired by museums and institutions around the world.
Nawar has received more than 27 national and international awards, including Egypt’s State Appreciation Award and the Nile Award for the Arts. In recognition of his artistic and cultural contributions, he has also received prestigious decorations from the presidents and governments of Egypt, France, Spain, and Russia, reflecting the international recognition of his career.
The experience of war marked a profound turning point in Nawar’s artistic journey, and its impact has remained present in his reflections on humanity, memory, and will. Scenes and memories of war evolved into a visual vocabulary in which movement, structure, and rhythm intersect within dense, dynamic compositions. His works combine geometric rigor with human emotion, moving between figuration and abstraction.
At Frieze London 2026, Ahmed Nawar presents large-scale works from his Will of a Nation series, in which his personal experience intersects with collective memory. Here, war is no longer merely a historical event, but an enduring imprint on the body, image, and memory—an ongoing exploration of the meanings of resilience, determination, and survival.
