Ne luăm rămas bun de la artistul fotograf Szabó Tamás.
Este firesc ca un artist care a creat peste 70 de ani și a activat în numeroase domenii și instituții ca fotograf să fie cunoscut și rememorat diferit de fiecare generație. Pentru unii, au rămas memorabile fotografiile sale aeriene cu Clujul sau ampla activitate documentară din cadrul Muzeului de Etnografie al Transilvaniei și al Teatrului Național Român din Cluj-Napoca, în timp ce pentru alții, relevante sunt fotografiile autonome ale artistului (compozițiile cu nuduri și monumente, de pildă).
Relația noastră cu domnul Szabó Tamás s-a concentrat pe activitatea la fel de definitorie pe care a avut-o în viața artistică clujeană, atât ca atent observator și prieten al artiștilor, cât și ca un documentarist al artei, răbdător și profesionist. Mii de reproduceri de artă și fotografii de la vernisaje sunt mărturii ale unei vieți artistice extrem de bogate. În cadrul acestor fotografii, portretele pe care le-a realizat artiștilor excelează prin modul în care a reușit să trateze fotografia ca pe un dialog necontenit cu subiectul portretizat.
Suntem recunoscători că fotograful a ales ca miile de clișee despre viața artistică clujeană să ajungă în Arhiva Quadro, constituind nucleul acesteia.

Búcsúzunk Szabó Tamás fotóművésztől.
Természetes, hogy egy olyan alkotót, aki több mint 70 éven át alkotott, és fotográfusként számos területen és intézményben tevékenykedett, a különböző nemzedékek eltérő módon ismernek és őriznek meg emlékezetükben. Egyesek számára a Kolozsvárról készített légifelvételei vagy az Erdélyi Néprajzi Múzeumban és a kolozsvári Román Nemzeti Színházban végzett szerteágazó dokumentációs tevékenysége maradt emlékezetes, míg másoknak a művészfotói (például akt- és műemlék-kompozíciói) a meghatározóak.
A Szabó Tamáshoz fűződő kapcsolatunk a kolozsvári művészeti életben betöltött, ugyancsak meghatározó tevékenységére összpontosult, amelyet a művészek empatikus megfigyelőjeként és barátjaként, valamint a művészet türelmes és professzionális dokumentálójaként végzett. Műalkotásokról készített reprodukciók és kiállításmegnyitókon készült felvételek ezrei tanúskodnak egy rendkívül gazdag művészeti életről. E fotók közül is kiemelkednek azok a művészportréi, amelyek a fényképezést az alannyal folytatott folytonos párbeszédként tudták kezelni.
Hálásak vagyunk, hogy a fotóművész úgy döntött, a művészeti életet megörökítő negatívok ezrei a Quadro Archívumba kerüljenek, megalapozva annak magvát.

We say our final goodbye to the photographer and artist Szabó Tamás.
It is natural for an artist who created for over 70 years and was active as a photographer across numerous fields and institutions to be known and remembered differently by each generation. For some, his aerial photographs of Cluj or his extensive documentary work within the Ethnographic Museum of Transylvania and the Romanian National Theatre in Cluj-Napoca remain memorable, while for others, the artist’s autonomous photographs (such as his compositions with nudes and monuments) are what truly stand out.
Our relationship with Mr. Szabó Tamás centered on his equally defining role in the artistic life of Cluj, both as an attentive observer and friend of artists, and as a patient, professional documentarian of art. Thousands of art reproductions and photographs from exhibition openings bear witness to an extremely rich artistic life. Within these photographs, however, the portraits he took of artists excel through the way he managed to treat photography as an uninterrupted dialogue with the portrayed subject.
We are grateful that the photographer chose for his thousands of negatives documenting artistic life to find their home in the Quadro Archive, forming its very core.
