At the end of 2023, on the 31st of December, our ESC project "Sharing Cultural Heritage and Knowledge" - KNOLTURE (ref. no. 2021-2-RO01-ESC51-VTJ-000045008) has come to an end. During the 24 month development period, the National History Museum of Romania hosted a number of forty volunteers in two team activities (short term) between 4th-31st July of 2022 and 22nd of August-18th of September of 2022 as well as four volunteers that took part in the 6 month individual volunteering stages throughout the implementation period of the project (both EU and Romanian citizens).
Volunteers from Romania, Spain, Turkey, Italy, Greece, France, Poland, the Netherlands, Germany and the Czech Republic have created a multicultural environment in the museum, working towards promoting and raising awareness of the Romanian culture, each of the participants' culture and last, but not least, the shared European values. Both the volunteers and the participating team have gathered their inspiration and efforts to achieve the goals of this project.
We, as an organisation, wish that all other projects, present and future, will develop as wonderful as KNOLTURE has.

We are very excited to plan our next activities alongside the volunteers from ISTHE project. Next week we will have new surprises for you.
Until then we are very happy to rememorate the beautiful event that we organized in the museum, the jewelry workshop. Before the children came, we completed all the preparations and put on our special costumes. When the children first came, we went on an adventure with them at the Treasure Exhibition. In this process, we could see how children looked at many works of art with curiosity and excitement. Afterwards, we held a jewelry workshop with them. They made all kinds of jewelry for themselves. When were helping to the children they asked many questions to us about the clothes and their histories it was really nice to see their curiosity about the history and the way their learning was funny. We were really happy so the them in the museum. There were a lot of voices form talking and laughing. I hope we can see them again and make more things and spend time together. Seeing their happiness made us even more happy. Also, we did a great job as a whole team throughout the event. It was great to see, share and help team spirit.

On Friday, volunteers of both projects in development at NHMR, ISTHE and KNOLTURE had the joy to work on a jewelry workshop with our friends from Save the Children Organisation. Here are our volunteer's thoughts on the day:
''It was a cherished day for me. We collaborated with Save the Children Organisation and 17 kids and us, who are volunteers, met in the museum and worked together. I ware The Phanariotes princess clothing and our mentor guided so kindly all of us. After the guided tour we made amazing jewelries. I helped them when they were creating their objects and they asked so many questions about our costumes. They asked me where am I from and there was another Turkish girl, we talked with her Turkish and it was nice for her. I dressed them in this princess dress and we took a picture together. Me and them always were smiling and we did not notice how time passed. They thanked us so many times, but we should thank to them, they gave us this joy. I hope all of them have a gorgeous life and remember this beautiful memory with us forever."

A beautiful example of collaboration between the NHMR curators and our volunteers. Let's discover an interesting story through image and text:
Do you know that who was also called “Verissimus”? This name means “most true” in Latin. He is Marcus Aurelius who is Roman emperor, a Stoic philosopher and more.

Pelisor castle is part of the vast architectural ensemble created by King Carol I throughout the Peles river valley during the entirety of his reign. Located 100 meters from the Peles castle, this castle was built between 1899 and 1902 as the residence of Prince Ferdinand and Princess Marie, the Royal Heirs to the Romanian throne.
Pelisor Castle is decorated in a new and modern style, although in contrast to the solemnity of the Great Castle, one can easily recognize the German Neo-Renaissance style on its exterior. The construction of the castle, based on the plans of the architect Karel Liman, respected King Carol I's requirements for exterior architecture with Fachwerk elements, but added Neo-Roman elements that gave the building a cheerful note: for example, two towers covered with colorful tiles resembling the towers of churches in Bucovina.
In terms of interior architecture, Karel Liman used, undoubtedly at the request of Princess Marie, along with elements of Art Nouveau, specific Romanian elements.
The interior decoration, conceived by Marie herself in different periods of time, between 1902-1903 and 1925-1928, illustrated her creed in aesthetics and art.

The Pelisor castle reveals, through its interior ornamentation, the romantic, mysterious personality, of Queen Marie of Romania, the promoter of a new and unusual art, for the style chosen by her for this “dream house” is Art Nouveau.
