We present a selection of works by Américo Ccala Quispe from the exhibition Opening - Ancestral Codes – Reimagining Pre-Columbian Cultures
Américo Ccala Quispe (b. 1964, Cusco, Peru) is a visual artist whose practice is rooted in painting and in an intuitive exploration of the subconscious. Trained at the Escuela Superior Autónoma de Bellas Artes del Perú in Lima, where he studied painting and art pedagogy, Ccala Quispe has developed an extensive artistic career since the 1980s, with numerous solo and group exhibitions in Peru and internationally.
In works inspired by the pre-Hispanic cultural universe, ancestral forms are not reproduced literally, but transformed into a contemporary visual language. Ceremonial objects become starting points for reflections on memory, ritual, transformation, and the relationship between cultural heritage and personal experience. For Ccala Quispe, painting is an evolving process in which each work grows organically from those that came before, allowing past and present to remain in continuous dialogue.
His paintings do not seek to represent reality directly, but to evoke it through colour, form, and movement. Layers of shapes and colours gradually reveal themselves, leaving space for the viewer to engage with the work and find their own meaning within it.
We invite you to discover the exhibition until August 22, 2026, at After 5 Art Escape, Arad.
