Zaratan presents the final exhibition of the sixth edition of the experimental laboratory EM OBRAS (Under Construction), featuring works by Filipe Domingues, Flor de Ceres Rabaçal, Foteini Stachtiari, Gabriela Sastoque, Hoana Bonito, Sandra Teixeira, and Xianchi Jin.
Moving away from traditional teaching methods, the laboratory emphasized practice, improvisation, debate, and collaboration. The discussion surrounding works of art—their formal qualities, the meanings they generate, their surrounding environment, and the roles of both artist and spectator—embodies an educational dimension that reflects Zaratan’s curatorial approach to training initiatives. It is not merely about organizing an exchange of knowledge, but first and foremost about creating discursive spaces: an open context for contemporary artistic practice to exist.
The exhibition project is rooted in the collaborative relationship between all participants: a community in flux that resists fixed identity practices and generates a dynamic relational map.
Following an intensive period of collective work with the group of artists/tutors—composed of António Olaio, Daniel Antunes Pinheiro, Gemma Noris, João Fonte Santa, José Chaves, Nuno Direitinho, and Pedro Gramaxo—, Zaratan’s gallery transforms into a stage where participants share the processes developed during the workshop with the public, filling the physical space with transversal thought and individual and collective productions.
BIOGRAPHIES

She has completed artist residencies at Quinta das Relvas (Grão) and the LETTER Foundation/LETTER Presse (in Cologne).
FOTEINI STACHTIARI: She is an undergraduate student in Fine Arts and Art Sciences at the University of Ioannina, Greece, specializing in Sculpture and Installation (while also practicing painting and printmaking). HOANA BONITO: She is a portrait photographer, visual artist, and audiovisual director whose practice bridges visual arts, photography, and music. At the core of her work is the act of seeing (the "alignment of gaze"), reflected in her ongoing project Permanente Autoconstrução and the open studio photography project An In-sight Perspective. She also developed an innovative method for teaching photography to visually impaired individuals by engaging tactile, auditory, and olfactory experiences.
SANDRA TEIXEIRA: Born in Guimarães in 1993, she is a visual artist based in Porto. Her work focuses on the observation of nature and experimental approaches to photography, frequently employing expired materials (such as silver gelatin paper) and low-toxicity plant-based developers (such as house plants, salt, and caffenol).
