We’ve arrived in Johannesburg and “Decolonial Perspectives” has officially taken shape at HUB #10.

Anchored in the pan-African framework of FNB Art Joburg, our curatorial project brings together the artworks of Amadeo Carvalho, Daniela Ribeiro, Ibrahim Bemba Kébé, Opeyemi Olokutun, Osvaldo Ferreira, René Tavares and Sanjo Lawal to reflect on decoloniality, historical narratives and the emergence of new perspectives on contemporary African art.

We are here, the works are in place, and we are ready to welcome you.

SAVE THE DATE | We are pleased to announce that from September 4th - 6th, THIS IS NOT A WHITE CUBE will participate in FNB Art Joburg 2026, returning to Johannesburg for the 19th edition of the art fair with the curatorial project “Decolonial Perspectives”.

Rooted in the pan-African framework that defines this year’s programme, the presentation brings together new and previously unseen works by Amadeo Carvalho, Daniela Ribeiro, Ibrahim Bemba Kébé, Opeyemi Olukotun, Osvaldo Ferreira, René Tavares and Sanjo Lawal, fostering a dialogue between artistic practices shaped by shared histories while reflecting on the ongoing construction of decolonial narratives.

✨ SAVE THE DATE | Join us on July 24th and 25th, for the double opening of “What Remains Between”, a collaborative exhibition bringing together contemporary art, place, and cultural dialogue across multiple venues in Comporta and Melides, Portugal.

Presented in three different venues - Centro Comporta, Galeria Circular, and A Moagem - the project invites visitors to explore the spaces between matter, time, memory, and landscape through the work of contemporary artists.

On June 25, THIS IS NOT A WHITE CUBE will present the exclusive artist edition Chronotopy of Presence by Paulo Albuquerque.

Produced on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name and the gallery’s 10th anniversary (2016–2026), this commemorative edition includes the exhibition catalogue and a signed and numbered artist multiple, issued in a limited edition of only 45 copies.

As ARCO Lisboa 2025 comes to a close, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of Embodied Architectures.

Presented by THIS IS NOT A WHITE CUBE, the project brought together the work of Ana Malta, Paulo Albuquerque, António Faria, Pedro Besugo, Expanded Eye, and Vanessa Barragão, exploring architecture as a space of memory, experience, transformation, and imagination.

Over the past days, we had the pleasure of welcoming collectors, curators, institutions, fellow galleries, artists, friends, and visitors from around the world. Your engagement, conversations, and support made this edition especially meaningful.

A heartfelt thank you to ARCO Lisboa and its team for once again creating an exceptional platform for contemporary art, and to all those who visited Booth B1 and shared this journey with us.

We leave this edition inspired by the exchanges, encounters, and opportunities that emerged throughout the fair, and look forward to continuing these conversations in the months ahead.

Until today, the international contemporary art world once again gathers at Cordoaria Nacional for another edition of ARCO Lisboa.

Featured in Embodied Architectures, the curatorial project presented by THIS IS NOT A WHITE CUBE, António Faria joins a group of artists exploring different ways of inhabiting, interpreting, and constructing space. Alongside Ana Malta, Paulo Albuquerque, Pedro Besugo, Vanessa Barragão, and Expanded Eye, the artist presents works that investigate the fragile relationship between nature, time, and human existence.

Working across drawing, light, and installation, Faria creates immersive visual environments where monochromatic compositions and illuminated structures become devices of suspension and revelation. His practice evokes the erosion of landscapes, the passage of time, and the transience of life, transforming drawing into a contemplative experience that oscillates between presence and disappearance.

Until Sunday, the international contemporary art world once again gathers at Cordoaria Nacional for another edition of ARCO Lisboa.

At Booth B1, THIS IS NOT A WHITE CUBE presents Embodied Architectures, a curatorial project bringing together works by Ana Malta, Paulo Albuquerque, António Faria, Pedro Besugo, Expanded Eye, and Vanessa Barragão.

Conceived around an expanded understanding of architecture, the project explores space not only as a built structure, but as a symbolic, emotional, and material construction shaped by memory, territory, the body, and time. Through painting, drawing, installation, ceramics, light, and textile practices, the artists propose distinct yet interconnected ways of inhabiting and interpreting the world around us.

From mental landscapes and human-scale territories to invisible spatial logics, narrative architectures, and regenerative ecosystems, Embodied Architectures unfolds as a constellation of perspectives on how we build, experience, and remember space.

Rooted in drawing as a structure of thought, Besugo’s practice constructs a visual archaeology of contemporary space, revealing the visible and invisible layers that shape landscapes, cities, and collective experience.

Até domingo, a arte contemporânea internacional volta a ocupar a Cordoaria Nacional com mais uma edição da ARCO Lisboa.

Em destaque na reportagem, Vanessa Barragão integra Embodied Architectures, o projeto curatorial apresentado pela THIS IS NOT A WHITE CUBE, onde a sua prática artística dialoga com as obras de Ana Malta, Paulo Albuquerque, António Faria, Pedro Besugo e Expanded Eye.

A obra da artista pode ser visitada no stand B1 da galeria, numa proposta que explora diferentes formas de habitar, sentir e representar o espaço através da pintura, instalação, escultura, arte têxtil e novas linguagens visuais.
