Sempre se dedicou exclusivamente ao modernismo e ao movimento contemporâneo portugueses, com exibições pontuais de artistas estrangeiros. Tem tido uma actividade artística intensa e de qualidade, apoiada em artistas “clássicos” que sempre estiveram ligados à Galeria, (como por exemplo, Areal, Cesariny, Júlio, Cruzeiro Seixas ou Nadir Afonso) mas também, e sobretudo, em artistas novos. ndiu-se para a cidade do Porto e recentemente alargou as instalações em Lisboa, voltando a ocupar a totalidade do espaço original que a celebrizou. The Gallery was founded in 1968 in a old building in the area where most of the Lisbon antique shops may be found, and since then it has become a reference point of Portuguese modernist painting, (several major artists such as; Amadeo de Souza Cardoso, Almada Negreiros, Jorge Barradas, Júlio, Botelho, António Areal, Cesariny, Cruzeiro Seixas, Vieira da Silva, Paula Rego, Resende, Cargaleiro, Calvet, Armanda Passos, Nadir Afonso) also very much connected with the surrealist movement. Meeting point of the Portuguese elite before and after the revolution of 1974, the gallery became a true cultural centre where there were also other productions such as concerts, conferences and art editions. In 2005 the Gallery opened a new branch in Porto city and has expanded the exhibition area in Lisbon in 2007.
