Absurdist Performance Workshop with Huge Sillytoe / Dr Hugh Sillitoe
How do our bodies and voices carry imposed constructions of ‘sense’?
And how might our bodies and voices learn to break off such normative notions of ‘sense’ and mould them into new, more expansive possibilities for life?
What is the absurd and what are the possible political and personal ramifications of acting absurdly?
Huge Sillytoe / Dr Hugh Sillitoe, renowned transdisciplinary performance artist and researcher of artivist absurdity, will guide the workshop exploring these questions through vocal and corporal experimentation exercises, improvisation games, conversations in movement, and deep play.
Workshop open to all curious to explore the intertwined artistic and political implications of meaningful nonsense, no previous artistic or theatrical experience required.

Huge Sillytoe is a large and daft toe, and a transdisciplinary artist whose work spans performance, theatre, artivism, eco-art, sound, music, poetry, installation and sculpture. The list grows on – like feelings, bacteria, winding rope, lightning bolts and developing bones – all reaching towards places unknown. These works form a constellation exploring their aesthetic-political philosophy of Spoonbroccolism (aka pragmatic-absurdo-anarchism).
As a shape-shifting, oversized and foolish toe, Huge creates artworks that challenge normative ideas of ‘sense’ and associated power/knowledge hierarchies. Their tools include expanding foam, skateboards, sewing machines, bagpipes, root vegetables, pantyhose, watermelons, masks, puppets and interactive installations made from found materials. Through workshops and participatory experiments, their work opens pathways towards a q***rer, more just world.
Originally from Durham, North East England, Huge is now itinerant, working internationally. They speak English, Spanish, Portuguese and Toetapoelib, the supersensible language of their own creation.
