Silvana Băloniu | ISLANDS.2026 — SOIL & TERRA
For Romanian painter Silvana Băloniu Silvana memory is both subject and creative material — connecting personal experience with the passage of time.
In her paintings, memory behaves like water: fluid, persistent and constantly changing. Often immersed in shades of blue, her works move quietly between melancholy and serenity, remembering and letting go.

Born in Santana, Madeira, Fátima Spínola Fátima Spínola works across painting, installation and site-specific art, exploring memory, matter, territory and the experience of island landscapes.
For SOIL & TERRA, she presents Natureza Morta — an installation built around a wheelbarrow, an object traditionally associated with working and transforming the land. Organic, visceral and slightly unsettling, the work blurs the boundaries between body, matter and territory, and between the natural and the artificial. M

There is a fragile moment where nature ends and the human hand begins.

Earth Palette, an installation by Atelier d’Guide is created from handmade h**p paper — delicate, almost weightless, yet born from one of the oldest and strongest natural fibres.

Here, soil, plants and human touch seem to find a quiet balance: nature transformed, but not silenced. Something made — and still very much alive.

For SOIL & TERRA, her practice turns to cyanotype — an experimental photographic process shaped by light, natural pigments and materials including turmeric, sea salt and tea. Here, nature is not simply the subject of the work — it becomes part of the process itself. CYAN

Evangelina Sirgado de Sousa | ISLANDS.2026 — SOIL & TERRA
Born in Funchal in 1952, Evangelina Sirgado de Sousa Evangelina Sirgado Sousa has been exhibiting since 1976. Her artistic practice moves between sculpture, photography, digital imagery, computer animation and experimental visual research.
Her work has travelled from Madeira to Los Angeles, Monte Carlo, Sydney and the UK — always exploring new ways of seeing and transforming the image.
For SOIL & TERRA, Evangelina presents works where colour, detail and the natural world become almost abstract landscapes.

Driftwood becomes a village. Old paper becomes a whale. Forgotten bits and pieces turn into boats, lighthouses and slightly eccentric sea creatures.
