Archigrest + TopoScape na wystawie „Metaxy: Between Destruction and Reconstruction” w Berlinie

Z ogromną radością informujemy, że Archigrest i topoScape biorą udział w wystawie Metaxy: Between Destruction and Reconstruction organizowanej przez Akademie der Künste we współpracy z ARCH+.

Wystawa gromadzi artystów i praktyków zajmujących się przestrzenią z 12 krajów, podejmując temat niepewnego momentu pomiędzy zniszczeniem a odbudową oraz tego, jak społeczeństwa mierzą się ze stratą, pamięcią i przyszłością.

Nasz wkład, „Rubble Hills: Warsaw and Berlin”, zestawia dwa niezwykłe krajobrazy powstałe z gruzów II wojny światowej: berliński Teufelsberg i warszawski Kopiec Powstania Warszawskiego.

Archigrest + topoScape at “Metaxy: Between Destruction and Reconstruction” in Berlin

We are very happy to announce that Archigrest and topoScape are taking part in Metaxy: Between Destruction and Reconstruction — an exhibition by the Akademie der Künste in collaboration with ARCH+, presented as part of Berlin Art Week 2026.

The exhibition brings together artists and spatial practitioners from 12 countries to explore the uncertain space between destruction and reconstruction — and the ways in which societies deal with loss, memory and the future.

Our contribution, “Rubble Hills: Warsaw and Berlin”, brings together two extraordinary landscapes created from the rubble of the Second World War: Berlin’s Teufelsberg and Warsaw’s Uprising Mound.

🌿 Żerański Park nominated for a prestigious European award!

🎉 We are very proud that Żerański Park has been among the 25 best projects nominated for the European Prize for Urban Public Space, awarded since 1999 by the Barcelona Centre for Contemporary Culture. It is the only project from Poland! 🇵🇱

ℹ The 13-hectare park on the Żerański Canal has already won the Mayor of Warsaw's Architectural Prize and Property Design Awards in the "Public Space" category. We shared the design by TopoScape and Archigrest, revitalized by the Warsaw Green Areas Authority, with you last fall.

The finalists and winner will be announced in October – keep your fingers crossed! 🤍

🎉It's finally here! The long-awaited book about the Warsaw Uprising Mound has been published.

📖'The Mound: A Laboratory of Modern Design' is the first monograph dedicated to the Park project — published by Dom Spotkań z Historią and Warsaw Greenery Board, a Warsaw-based publisher and cultural institution focused on contemporary history. Among the authors are Grzegorz Piątek and Adam Przywara, as well as the designers and contributors to the park, including ourselves. Graphic design: Ola Jasionowska and Katarzyna Godyń-Skoczylas.

Park zaprojektowany wspólnie z TopoScape otrzymał wyróżnienie w kategorii przestrzeń publiczna. To projekt, z którego jesteśmy naprawdę dumni — linearny układ łączący teren nadwodny z "leśnym" krajobrazem i widokiem na port.

How the Warsaw Uprising Mound park has evolved three years after its opening is the subject of a piece by Maja Mozga-Górecka in the latest issue of The Architectural Review. The occasion is the AR Public award for best public space of 2025–2026.

‘On a sunny Sunday this May, the playground is full of children, and people of all ages can be seen learning about the site’s history at the northern entrance, photographing close‑ups of plants and panoramic city views from the top of the hill, or watching squirrels from the elevated ramps on the southern side. Since the mound was turned into a park by Archigrest and Toposcape, it brims with life’ writes Maja Mozga‑Górecka of the 2026 AR Public awards’ winning project.

Rubble from the Second World War was gathered in mounds on the outskirts of Warsaw. The 160m‑high hill south of the city was turned into a memorial site in the 1990s, and is now evolving as a public park. Any rubble excavated during the works had to be kept on site, so Archigrest and Toposcape used it to fill the gabions that serve as exhibition structures, recounting the story of postwar Warsaw, though ‘more than two thirds of the mound’s surface have remained unaltered’.

Big green areas were excluded from human intervention. Visitors are encouraged to observe the flora and fauna from a relative distance, with winding routes on elevated walkways and viewing platforms. Throughout the site, a series of gullies have been carved, enclosed by retaining walls made of ‘rubble concrete’.

🏆 Wygraliśmy AR Public 2026!

Projekt przekształcenia Kopca Powstania Warszawskiego w park — zrealizowany wspólnie z TopoScape — został uznany za najlepszą przestrzeń publiczną roku przez jury The Architectural Review, jednego z najstarszych i najbardziej prestiżowych miesięczników architektonicznych na świecie, wydawanego w Londynie nieprzerwanie od 1896 roku.

Jury w składzie: Rafiq Azam (założyciel Shatotto), Judith Lösing (dyrektorka East) oraz Mario Súñer Díaz (Batlleiroig) doceniło projekt za to, że „z powodzeniem łączy historię, środowisko, społeczeństwo i kulturę, tworząc przemyślane i kompletne rozwiązanie projektowe" — oraz że architekci „zaangażowali się jednocześnie z materią, historią i symboliką, tworząc nowe miejsce tożsamości" i „prawdziwie demokratyczną przestrzeń".

🏆 We won AR Public 2026!

The transformation of the Warsaw Uprising Mound into a park — realised in collaboration with TopoScape — has been named the best public space of the year by the jury of the Architectural Review, one of the oldest and most prestigious architecture monthlies in the world, published in London continuously since 1896.

The jury — Rafiq Azam (founder of Shatotto), Judith Lösing (director of East) and Mario Súñer Díaz (Batlleiroig) — recognised the project for 'successfully connecting history, environment, society and culture, creating a meaningful and complete design solution', and for the architects having 'engaged simultaneously with the material, the historical and the symbolic to create a new space of identity' and 'a true democratic space'.
