Art Basel Statements and Parcours ends today !

Visit us in the booth M1, Statements sector, with Adam Shiu-Yang Shaw () and Parcours location at the Villiger Mode at Claraplatz 3 to see W. Rossen (w.rossen).

-

In his practice, Rossen chooses to focus on connections and transitions of the daily existence – all those parts emphasize his persistent fascination with the ordinary. Rossen’s paintings require looking at everything intently as he often isolates certain details that typically escape notice, allowing them
to function as signals, with a distinct form and meaning, emerging from a parallel contemporary logic.

[…]

Shaw works merge fragments of different places and narratives, producing structures that feel both familiar and estranged, suspended between recognition and abstraction. Engaging with the overlooked details of cityscapes and public space, he invites a closer, more attentive way of looking. Borrowing from scenographic and museological strategies, he stages objects beyond their utilitarian function, transforming them into carriers of memory/models through which suppressed, unnoticed, or outmoded aspects of the environments we inhabit begin to resurface.

The relationship between the body and hardware lies at the forefront of Cudelice Brazelton’s work and is echoed through techniques of tearing, piercing and reconstruction. Images sourced from the barbershop and urban life are transferred onto denim and burned with soldering irons, producing ephemeral traces of a figure that peel from the surface to reveal layers beneath or the wall itself. Though no figure is depicted, a human presence is still perceived through subcultural symbols. Brazelton’s work is often site specific and focused on the material that is used. Scratching, rubbing and scarifying take reference to cosmetic rituals and bodily habits of self expression. Sound further activates the work in the form of devices, expanding ideas of assemblage, Blackness, and the remix of labor and expression.

Cudelice Brazelton IV (b. 1991, Dallas, TX, US) lives in Frankfurt am Main and Rotterdam. He completed his studies at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste (Städelschule) in 2021. His work has been presented in solo exhibitions at Kunsthalle Lingen, Cell Project Space in London, Galeria Wschód in Warsaw and New York, and Galerie Barbara Weiss in Berlin among others, and he has participated in group exhibitions at Kaunas Biennale, La Fondation Pernod Ricard, Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, Kunstverein Freiburg, the Swiss Institute and SculptureCenter in New York. Brazelton IV teaches as a core tutor at De Ateliers in Amsterdam.

Grounded in urban geography, Adam Shiu-Yang Shaw’s artistic practice investigates the built environments that have shaped his way of seeing. Particular emphasis is placed on the interdependencies between urban centres and their hinterlands, tracing processes of urbanisation through which contemporary cities take shape. By following local waste-
disposal systems and their distant, delayed, and often invisible consequences beyond city limits, the exhibition connects material fl ows at street level with global economic
and cultural networks. Waste refl ects everyday habits, values, and behaviours, while also materialising the eff ects of economic relations, global waste trade, and armed confl ict.
Systems of incineration, burial, or export abstract these processes, obscuring the scale of their impact.

Landscape painting creates a specifi c collective experience that refl ects cultural, emotional, and environmental narratives. Diff erent kinds of compositions or arrangements of forms on the surface of the canvas and diff erent kinds of forms in nature are associated with specifi c emotional states and philosophies. The landscape painting involved in both conceptualization and illustration emphasizes the importance
of direct perception – something that has been endured collectively through decades. 𝘈 𝘚𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘺 𝘰𝘯 𝘙𝘶𝘪𝘴𝘥𝘢𝘦𝘭 is a site-specifi c project that will fully uncover Rossen’s meticulous practice and examine the relationship between historical and contemporary painting.

The installation brings together scenography, architectural sculpture, digitally controlled woodworking, video slideshow, and sound collage to examine the environmental, material, and psychological consequences of urban waste, using Berlin as a case study.

The term Stadtreinigung refers to the Berliner Stadtreinigungsbetriebe (BSR), one of Europe’s most significant municipal waste management institutions. The installation and accompanying works map infrastructures of waste management, scrap yards, waste water treatment plants, land fills, and sites of wartime destruction, treating disposal practices as a framework for examining how value is assigned and organized within society.

W. Rossen’s painting practice revisits historical image-making through subtle shifts in detail, perspective, and material language. Working primarily with oil on linen, he draws from Old Masters, Dutch Baroque landscapes, and early modern drawing traditions. Rossen focuses on their overlooked
fragments – formal mistakes, blurred edges, technical anomalies, or everyday objects that quietly disrupt pictorial hierarchies. He is interested in how these details become signals that reveal how meaning emerges through perception and context.

Announcing representation:

Galeria Wschód is pleased to announce the representation of Linda Lach (b. 1995, Warsaw, Poland).

Linda Lach’s practice explores topics of recurrent translations and intimacy through performative sculptures, installations, video and poetry utilizing materials such as wood, leather, cotton, plastic. Her material gestures expand the presence and extend the social function of sculpture and performance by focusing on atemporality, self-exploitation and acts of brutality, which exist beyond the categories of safety and uncertainty. Concerned with the current political peril of Eastern Europe Lach, through her practice, navigates the ongoing symbolic dissolution and engages the inevitable reactionary reterritorialization of our reality.

Linda Lach is based in Warsaw. She holds an MFA from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Most recent exhibitions include: all keys all times, Salzburger Kunstverein, Salzburg (2026); Constellations, duo exhibition with Diane Severin Nguyen at Gunia Nowik & Molitor, Warsaw (2026); Tales from the Fractured Minds, The Address, Brescia (2026); (a)biotic indulgence, duo exhibition with Evelina Jonsson, Coulisse, Stockholm (2026); Material Messenger, SKK, Soest (2025); Cabinet Institute, Artagon Pantin, Paris (2025); Lossy Life, duo exhibition with Gaspar Willmann at Wanda & Exo Exo, Warsaw (2024).

Linda will be participating at Wschód’s residency program in the Naples’ space this year. In 2027 she will hold her first solo exhibition with the gallery.
