On June 23, Polish and Ukrainian cultural leaders will gather in Warsaw to ensure culture anchors Ukraine's recovery and societal resilience.

This meeting highlights the powerful, ongoing cooperation between Polish and Ukrainian . It is far more than a rescue effort against the destruction of heritage; it is a deep, equal partnership built on mutual learning, knowledge exchange, and solidarity.

We are proud to share that this strategic meeting has been granted official Side Event status to the upcoming Recovery Conference ( 2026) in Gdańsk!

Hosted by the OBMIN Foundation the event will welcome Ukrainian Deputy Ministers of Culture and museum experts to advocate for digitalization, funding, and stronger international partnerships. Because rebuilding a nation means protecting its identity.

Russia gives another proof to the fact that it wants to annihilate the Ukrainian culture and identity:
Bombarding the Kyiv Monastery of the Caves (Національний заповідник Києво-Печерська лавра ) and cultural sites in other Ukrainian cities is barbaric.
It needs to be answered by making culture an own topic at the Ukraine Recovery Conference ( )on June 25 in .
It also requires to further strengthen support to preserve cultural sites throughout Ukraine.
OBMIN is doing just this. Our next action: bringing together Polish and Ukrainian museums just before the URC to launch more bilateral cooperation and support.

This is why cultural sites are systematically attacked - last night ’s famous Національний заповідник Києво-Печерська лавра monastery and other important cultural sites-
This is why culture needs to become an own pillar in the discussions in the forthcoming Ukraine Recovery Conference on June 25 in Gdańsk.
And this is why OBMIN gathers Ukrainian and Polish museums in a pre-conference to the on June 23 in Warsaw where we will launch new initiatives to support Ukrainian museums.

"We need drones to defend ourselves. We need culture to survive."

At the recent Green Culture Festival in Karlsruhe, Małgorzata Ławrowska-von Thadden, CEO of OBMIN, took part in a crucial panel discussion alongside Christine Delius from the Agency for International Museum Cooperation, exploring how the war in has redefined the role of culture in times of crisis.

is not just a supplement to social life—it is the bedrock of identity, cohesion, and democratic resilience. Drawing on OBMIN’s practical work on the ground, we discussed how Ukrainian are fighting disinformation, protecting targeted heritage, and helping society endure.

We are proud to participate in the international conference "Museum Practices and Transformations in the Coverage of World War II," hosted by the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War in Kyiv. The event brings together museum experts from 15 countries to discuss memory preservation amid global instability.

As part of the international cooperation panel, we contributed a special video message addressing two critical issues:

Museums as pillars of recovery: Why museums must be seen not just as cultural institutions, but as vital actors for social resilience, democratic dialogue, and community healing.

Protecting shared heritage: How to boost the visibility of Ukrainian museums within Europe’s cultural landscape to counter Russia’s attempts to destroy and appropriate Ukrainian history.

As part of the Ukraine Cultural Security Forum in Warsaw, we took part in a study visit to the Gasworks Museum. The preserved 19th-century industrial architecture and machinery provided a unique setting for networking and discussions outside the main panels.

What makes our modern cities run? energy!
We can’t imagine a world without energy anytime at hand.
, however, got its first gas streetlights in 1856.
How this came about and how electricity changed our world forever can be studied in the Museum Gasworks Warsaw (Muzeum Gazowni Warszawskiej).
A study visit to this impressive and surprising museum concluded our Ukraine Culture Security Forum 2.0 in Warsaw. People in Ukraine understand the vital importance of energy as Russia systematically tries to destroy energy infrastructure.
A special thanks to Katarzyna Uroda - Lenartowicz and Justyna Hara and to the Fundacja ORLEN im. Ignacego Łukasiewicza (Fundacja ORLEN) for this visit and their support for OBMIN’s conference.
