Today marks the 391st anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone of Fort Pilar, one of Zamboanga Cityโ€™s most significant historical landmarks and a recognized National Cultural Treasure, now serves as a regional museum of the National Museum of the Philippines. Since 1635, Fort Pilar has stood as a symbol of resilience, faith, and cultural continuity, bearing witness to centuries of the cityโ€™s history and transformation.

Coinciding with this commemoration is ๐ƒ๐ข๐š ๐๐ž ๐ฅ๐š ๐…๐ฎ๐ง๐๐š๐œ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐ž๐ฅ ๐‚๐ก๐š๐ฏ๐š๐œ๐š๐ง๐จ, celebrated every 23 June to honor the enduring legacy of Chabacano, the Philippinesโ€™ only Spanish-based creole language. As an important expression of Zamboangueรฑo identity, Chabacano reflects the rich cultural exchanges that have shaped the city through time.

In celebration of these milestones, the National Museum of the Philippinesโ€“Zamboanga presents the Sketch and Stay Output Exposition, featuring artworks created during the International Museum Day celebration on 18 May 2026. Inspired by Fort Pilar, the sketches capture the beauty, history, and cultural heritage of Zamboanga City through the perspectives of participating artists.

Through art and heritage, the exposition invites visitors to appreciate the enduring significance of Fort Pilar and the vibrant cultural traditions that continue to shape the identity of the Zamboangueรฑo community.
