Cloudgrey Gallery announces the participation of Ronald Ventura in a Collateral Event of the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia,taking place from 9 May to 22 November 2026.

Ronald Ventura, represented by Cloudgrey Gallery in the Philippines, is one of the leading Southeast Asian voices in contemporary art. For this year’s Biennale Collateral programme, he presents “Luna,” a large-scale, site specific exhibition that transforms the Docks Cantieri Cucchini into an immersive dialogue between Venice and his native Malabon.
Curated by Ruel Caasi, “Luna” features more than a dozen newly realized works, ranging from signature oil paintings and charcoal drawings to sculptures in resin and Murano glass. The project explores the ecological vulnerability of water-shaped communities through the metaphor of the moon and its orchestrating tides.

The exhibition is promoted by MUSE Science Museum Trento and Castel Belasi – Contemporary Art Center for Eco Thought. As part of the public program, Ventura will conduct a masterclass connected to the “We Are the Flood” creative platform, addressing the climate crisis and our shared global condition.
The theme for Biennale Arte 2026 is “In Minor Keys” curated by the late Koyo Kouoh.

In this installation, Ronald Ventura reimagines the carousel—a familiar amusement ride—into an immersive spectacle that stages layered imaginaries inspired by eclectic sources, from belief systems to popular media. The rotating platform reconfigures leisure, play, and childhood nostalgia into a grand display of land and aquatic creatures, mythical beasts, gothic monsters, and religious icons – all in a cyclical procession electrified with lights, sounds, and movements.

This menagerie of dreamlike forms mounted on poles is a playful take on the encounter between foreign and indigenous cosmologies—foregrounding Philippine colonial history and its contemporary expressions. Christian iconography alternates with ghouls of Philippine folklore and figures reminiscent of characters from fantasy films or animation. They move in a perpetual loop, like the unending saga of good versus evil continuously told across time and place.
