Mazurka Boholana Dance
Sculpture-A0001-2026

Mazurka Boholana is a traditional ballroom and courtship dance that originated in the province of Bohol, Philippines. Inspired by the Spanish mazurka, it is characterized by lively triple-meter steps, graceful hand movements, and elegant partner formations performed to the accompaniment of vibrant rondalla music.

More than a dance, the Mazurka Boholana represents the unity, resilience, and cultural identity of the Boholano people. Although it emerged during the Spanish colonial period, it has been preserved as an important part of the province's heritage. Today, it serves as a symbol of Bohol's rich history, enduring traditions, and the ability of its people to transform historical influences into a unique and meaningful cultural expression.

Although many people in the younger generation may no longer be familiar with this traditional dance, I hope this piece encourages them to remember, appreciate, and reconnect with our cultural heritage. By preserving and sharing the Mazurka Boholana, we help ensure that its history and traditions continue to inspire future generations.
