The BS Biology intern students of Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) recently completed a month-long immersion and familiarization program at the Northwestern University Ecological Park & Botanic Gardens (NUEBG).

During their stay, the students were exposed to the diverse operational, research, and conservation activities being undertaken at the garden. The program provided hands-on experience in plant conservation practices, botanical collection management, and ecological fieldwork.

The interns actively participated in herbarium specimen collection, processing, and curation, gaining practical training in standard botanical documentation and preservation techniques. In addition, they visited several ecological monitoring sites across the province, where they were introduced to ongoing field studies and biodiversity assessment methods.

This immersion program forms part of NUEBGā€™s continuing role as a training and research facility for emerging biologists, providing students with direct exposure to plant taxonomy, conservation science, and ecological monitoring in real-world settings.
