𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗚𝗔𝗧𝗔𝗡 𝗙𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗔𝗟 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗨𝗡𝗚𝗚𝗨𝗟 𝗝𝗔𝗥 🎭🏺

As we celebrate 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, we also commemorate Palawan's founding anniversary every 23 June, marking the establishment of the province's first civil government. This observance was formally recognized through Provincial Resolution No. 154 (1988), reinforced by Executive Order No. 2 (1997) declaring 23 June as Palawan Foundation Day, and institutionalized through Republic Act No. 9748 (2009), which declared the date a special non-working holiday throughout the Province of Palawan, including Puerto Princesa City.

Have you seen the newly launched Baragatan Festival logo of the Provincial Government of Palawan? Yes! Our National Cultural Treasure, the 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗴𝘂𝗹 𝗝𝗮𝗿, is featured in it!

The Manunggul Jar is a secondary burial jar discovered in 1964 at the Manunggul Cave of the Tabon Cave Complex in Quezon, Palawan. Considered one of the finest examples of precolonial Philippine artistry, it provides valuable insights into the beliefs, creativity, and worldview of early Filipinos.

Likewise, during the Baragatan Festival 2026 Art Painting Competition, the Manunggul Jar emerged as a recurring subject in many of the artworks. Its prominent presence reflects the deepening appreciation of Palawenyos for their cultural heritage and highlights how this iconic artifact has become a symbol of identity, pride, and shared history.

As we celebrate , may we remember that our heritage is not only something to be admired but also something to be understood, safeguarded, and passed on. The Manunggul Jar stands as a reminder that the story of Palawan lives on through the people who continue to cherish it.

For the 4th , participants explored Kabuwan Cave yesterday, 20 June 2026. Unlike the caves featured in our previous quests, which are located on the side of Lipuun Point facing Nakoda Bay, Kabuwan Cave offers a different perspective as it is situated on the opposite side, facing Malanut Bay.

𝗔 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 🎨

Yesterday became a celebration of artistic excellence and meaningful conversations on culture and heritage as the Baragatan Festival 2026 highlighted the visual arts through a series of activities that gathered artists and art enthusiasts in Palawan.

The day began with the judging of the Baragatan Festival 2026 Art Painting Competition at the Palawan Heritage Center. Serving as judges were Ms. Jackielyn S. Abela, Supervising Administrative Officer of the National Museum of the Philippines - Tabon Cave Complex and Lipuun Point, and Mr. Al-Neezar B. Ali, Head of the National Committee on Visual Arts of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

In the afternoon, the Art Talk was held at The Residence, formerly known as the Former Old Governor's Residence, which now serves as a venue for art exhibitions featuring Palawenyo artists.

The same distinguished judges took the stage as speakers. Commissioner Ali delivered his talk, “Palawani: Roots in Color, Cultural Heritage Reimagined in Contemporary Art Practice," exploring how artists reinterpret cultural heritage through contemporary expressions while remaining rooted in identity and tradition.

This was followed by Ms. Abela's presentation, "Traditions and Transformations: Artists as Custodians of Heritage and Palawenyo Identity," which underscored the important role of artists in preserving, promoting, and passing on the rich cultural heritage of Palawan through their creative practice.

After the presentations, an open forum provided participants with the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers. Artists raised questions, shared experiences, and exchanged ideas on the realities and challenges faced by the local art community. The discussion evolved into a healthy and enriching dialogue on the state of the arts in Palawan, emphasizing collaboration, cultural stewardship, and the need to create more spaces and opportunities that nurture artistic growth and strengthen the province's creative landscape.

The day concluded with the awarding ceremony for the winners of the Baragatan Festival 2026 Art Painting Competition, recognizing the talent, creativity, and dedication of Palawenyo artists whose works continue to reflect the stories, identity, and spirit of the province.

Indeed, it was a day that celebrated not only artistic achievement but also the timeless role of art in preserving heritage, fostering dialogue, and inspiring communities.
