In the late 1990s, this Ninoy Aquino sculpture on Ayala Avenue by Peter de Guzman replaced the other Aquino sculpture by Anastacio Caedo because of its depressing image. Former President Corazon Aquino, widow of Ninoy, dedicated the new sculpture to the generation of Filipinos born after 1986, the year of the People Power Revolution. The statue stands in the fountainhead of the People Power revolt in EDSA. Makati City, especially the stretch of the business district’s Ayala Avenue, was the site of the most dramatic rallies against the misrule of Ferdinand Marcos Sr. The "Yellow Friday" protest marches and anti-dictatorship demonstrations, with their rain of yellow confetti, took place following his assassination on August 21, 1983. The bronze statue, which stands 10 feet tall on a 12-foot marble base, was commissioned by industrialist Jaime Zobel de Ayala.

THANK YOU!

The 2026 ART IN THE CITY: Art Workshop for a Cause concluded with Impressionist pastel techniques on color and light, led by Philippine Pastel Artists mentor Nelle Belgado. It was an artistically challenging session that ended with individual evaluation of the students' works.

We thank all the facilitators, mentors, and supporters who made this year's 8 art workshops possible and meaningful.

See you all in ART IN THE CITY in 2027!

Despite the rain, learners from 15th Avenue Elementary School shone in the Liwanag Reading Program session last August 12, 2026. The storytelling session was led by Adarna House storyteller, Ms. Alma Lawagan, with stories themed with Buwan ng Wika at Kasaysayan; and by Binibining Pilipinas queens with interactive games and gifts.

The Liwanag Reading Program was made possible by Adarna House, Binibining Pilipinas Charities, and Pizza Hut.

THEY ARE GETTING BETTER!

The participants of the monthly art session offered by The Travelling Pastel Project show passionate progress in their pastel works.

The art sessions are open to the public, but the regulars keep improving their work. Thanks to the thoughtful assistance of TTRAPP artist-mentors.

The next session is on September 5, and we shall see you then.

The July 18 Art in the City session with Master Romulo Galicano, Decoding Mastery through the Basics, was a golden learning moment for the participants.

Galicano imparted wisdom from mentors and great artists, along with theories, techniques, and stories of travels, and anecdotes, that propelled him to the height of his visual art career.

This Masterclass was one for the books, a rare moment for year 2 of Art in the City.
