LUNGSOD QUEZON — Bilang bahagi ng pagdiriwang ng ika-148 taong anibersaryo ng kapanganakan ni Pangulong Manuel Quezon, Buwan ng Kasaysayan, at Dekada ng Kasaysayan ng Pilipinas, magkatuwang na maglulunsad ang Presidential Car Museum at Quezon Memorial Shrine – Museo ni Manuel Quezon ng isang natatanging lektura sa darating na Agosto 19, 2026.

Pinamagatang “Justice and Friendship for All: Quezon’s Diplomatic Strategies and Its Relevance to Contemporary Philippine Foreign Policy,” ang lekturang ito ay naglalayong suriin ang patuloy na kahalagahan ng diplomatikong pamana ni Pangulong Quezon sa modernong ugnayang panlabas ng bansa. Ito ay pangungunahan ng kilalang historyador at dalubhasa na si Dr. Ricardo Trota Jose bilang punong tagapagsalita. Gaganapin ang programa sa Silid-Kumperensya ng Presidential Car Museum sa ganap na 1:00 ng hapon.

Matagumpay na pagdaraos ng misang pangalaala at pagbabasbas ng puntod biglang paggunita sa Ika-82 Anibersaryo ng Pagpanaw ni Manuel Quezon at pormal na Pagbubukas ng Buwan ng Wika na ginanap sa Dambanang Quezon - Museo ni Manuel Quezon ngayong araw.

Ang misa at programa ay dinaluhan ng Pangalawang Punong Lungsod ng Lungsod Quezon Gian Sotto, Kon. Tany Joe Calalay at Kon. Nanette Castelo Daza, Tagapangulo ng Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino Atty. Marites Barrios-Taran, Pangalawang Punong Tagapagpaganap ng Pambansang Komisyong Pangkasaysayan ng Pilipinas Rosario Sapitan, at Kaanak ni Pangulong Manuel Quezon na si Ginoong Benjamin Avancena.

𝑫𝑰𝑫 𝒀𝑶𝑼 𝑲𝑵𝑶𝑾?

On August 1, 1944, President Quezon died of tuberculosis in Saranac Lake, New York. A vigil was held at the St. Matthew's Cathedral in Washington D.C. Quezon was given full military honors during his internment at the Arlington cemetery.

On July 27, 1946, his remains were returned to the Philippines and laid to rest at the Manila North Cemetery. On August 19, 1978, the Quezon Memorial Shrine was finally opened to the public and would be his final resting place.

To this day, the tomb of Manuel L. Quezon can be viewed inside the Quezon Memorial Shrine - Museo ni Manuel L. Quezon, an iconic historical landmark of Quezon's lasting legacy.

𝑫𝑰𝑫 𝒀𝑶𝑼 𝑲𝑵𝑶𝑾?

This ceremonial casket served as the original repository for the 1935 Constitution, which was signed by the delegates of the Constitutional Convention on February 19, 1935. It was gifted to the state by the Compañia General de Tabacos de Filipinas (Tabacalera), a hand-rolled cigar factory established on November 11, 1881, and was formally presented to President Manuel Quezon by the company's representative, Lorenzo Correa.

Constructed from cedar wood, bronze, cast iron, and gold-plated Toledo steel, the chest's exterior features a late 19th-century neo-Renaissance style and bears the engraved inscriptions "Barcelona" and "Berisain." Its elaborate ornamentation reflects the profound esteem Filipinos held for the Constitution, revering the original manuscript with a sanctity comparable to that of a consecrated host.

Beginning in 1919, Manuel L. Quezon led four independence missions to the United States—in 1919, 1922, 1927, and 1934. The victory of the American Democratic Party in the 1930 congressional elections strengthened these efforts, leading Senator Sergio Osmeña and House Speaker Manuel Roxas (the "Osrox" Mission) to accept the Hare‑Hawes‑Cutting Law in 1933, which promised Philippine independence after a ten‑year transition period.

The retention of American military bases which violated national sovereignty, caused the Nationalist Party to split into the "Antis" and "Pros" and sparked fierce public debates, ultimately leading the legislature to defeat the law in 1933.

That same year, Quezon embarked on another mission and returned with a new independence measure, the Tydings‑McDuffie Law, which not only became the bedrock of the Commonwealth Government but also elevated Quezon to the pinnacle of his political career.

Manuel L. Quezon was elected resident commissioner in 1909. On May 14, 1910, he delivered a speech at the U. S. Congress and toured several states promoting the cause of Philippine independence. This only took place in 1916 through the Jones Law, which promised to grant Philippine Independence albeit vaguely, using the phrase "in the first opportunity." The Jones Law expanded Filipino participation in government through the new bicameral legislature composed entirely of Filipinos, and the cabinet, majority of whom were Filipino. The Filipinization policy as it came to be known was the work of Gov. Gen. Francis Burton Harrison (1913-1921)
