๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ Pagpupugay sa mga Babaeng Bayani ngayong Araw ng Kalayaan!

The story of Philippine independence was shaped by countless individuals whose courage and dedication helped pave the way toward freedom, especially women whose contributions have often gone unrecognized.

At the Tandang Sora Women's Museum, we celebrate Independence Day in honor of Marina Dizon, who joined the Katipunan in 1893 and was elected as the first Secretary of the Katipunanโ€™s womenโ€™s chapter. She would perform in front of the Guardia Civil to divert attention from secret revolutionary meetings. While fleeing the Guardia Civil, she burned important Katipunan documents to prevent their capture.

As we commemorate the 128th Philippine Independence Day, let us remember not only the triumph of a nation but also the many Filipinas who nurtured it, supported revolutionary efforts, and advocated for a better nation. Their stories remind us that patriotism takes many forms: through service, resilience, and care for others. ๐ŸŒบ

Maligayang ika-128 Araw ng Kalayaan!
Mabuhay ang kababaihang Pilipino at ang sambayanang Pilipino. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ๐ŸŒบ

New history exhibit with loads of compelling art! Yes! At Y Space at the Yuchengco Museum from June 11 to July 11, get a chance to see historians Renato Constantino and Letizia Roxas Constantino as you've never seen them before. Discover the epic love story of two Filipinos who wrote together as a couple to decolonize the nation.

The exhibit will showcase letters, never before seen book manuscripts, and other rare artifacts. Revealed to the public for the first time are works of art given to the couple by National Artist Vicente Manansala and celebrated painters Malang and Araceli Dans, together with photos of the writers with good friends such as Sen. Claro M. Recto and Sen. Lorenzo Taรฑada, alongside handwritten notes from historians such as William Henry Scott, Doreen Fernandez, and Edilberto Alegre.

The exhibit launch on June 11 is from 3-5 p.m. and will be open and free to the public. The museum will also be open and free to the public on June 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For all other days, museum admission fees will be charged, though substantial discounts can be availed by students, PWDs, and senior citizens. RCBC Plaza has a bike parking area at Basement Level 1, just bring two or more locks to secure your bicycle and beat the traffic in Makati CBD. For car parking needs, wheelchair access, and other details, find out more from their website: https://yuchengcomuseum.org/visit/visitor-information/

The exhibit will display fascinating new art - contemporary expressions of a usable history, the concept advanced by Renato Constantino and Letizia Roxas Constantino to encourage Filipinos to use lessons from the past to shape their present and realize a sustainable and fair future.

Pasts Revisited is in partnership with the Yuchengco Museum, created to house the art collection of Ambassador Alfonso T. Yuchengco, and highlight his distinguished career as a businessman, diplomat, collector, philanthropist, patron of the arts, and advocate for education in the Philippines and beyond.

The Constantino Foundation works closely with the advocacy group 350 Pilipinas, whose volunteers created compelling new art for the upcoming exhibit.

The Tandang Sora Womenโ€™s Museum held the second run of Art Tambay: Borlas de Pastillas last May 23, 2026, as part of the celebration of National Heritage Month and in honoring the enduring tradition of โ€˜pabalatโ€™.

Participants explored the intricate paperโ€‘cutting art of Borlas de Pastillas (๐˜ฑ๐˜ข๐˜ฃ๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ข๐˜ต) from San Miguel, Bulacan and were introduced to one of the remaining cultural bearers of the craft: Nanay Naty Ocampo through FEATRโ€™s documentary.

The workshop was facilitated by QCTD Planning Assistant Rafael Chu who guided participantโ€™s creation of their own designs.

The program concluded with a guided museum tour and a short educational discussion by Rural Women Advocates (RUWA), highlighting womenโ€™s experiences and challenges they continue to face today.

More than a workshop, Art Tambay became a space for learning, creativity, and community, keeping this unique Filipino tradition alive.

The Tandang Sora Womenโ€™s Museum extends its gratitude to everyone who joined this meaningful activity and for keeping this unique Filipino tradition alive.

The Tandang Sora Women's Museum (TSWM) officially launched the temporary exhibit, "Tagubilin: The Life Lessons of Gregoria de Jesus" last Friday, 08 May 2026, in partnership with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines.

Ms. Maria Lourdes Santos-Viola Gaston of Bahay Nakpil-Bautista and one of Gregoria de Jesus' descendant served as the guest of honor and reflected on the enduring lessons of courage, resilience, and patriotism embodied by the Lakambini of the Katipunan.

Quezon City Tourism Department Officer-in-Charge, Ms. Giana Aira A. Barata led the opening remarks with welcome and support for initiatives that preserve and promote women's history and heritage.

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines represented by Mr. Eufemeio O. Agbayani III had a short discussion about the exhibit, sharing historical insights on Gregoria de Jesus and the relevance of her wisdom in understanding the nation's history today.

The event was attended by various organizations and community members from Barangay Tandang Sora.

The exhibit was organized in line with the National Heritage Month and the 151st birth anniversary of Gregoria de Jesus. The display highlights the paintings that symbolizes the 'sampung tagubilin' or ten life lessons left by Gregoria. As the custodian of the Katipunan's documents, she proved the vital role of women in the struggle for Philippine independence, a legacy that continues to inspire present and future generations.

The Tagubilin: The Life Lessons of Gregoria de Jesus exhibit will run until June 17, 2026.

The Tandang Sora Women's Museum encourages everyone to visit the exhibit and learn more about the significant role of women in our history.
