When resistance is painted as mere nuisance and civil disobedience, the oppressed will dare to fight back. Samael Pascual explores these dynamics in his first solo exhibition, SUWAIL.
Samael takes his graffiti background and cartoon aesthetics to make commentaries on dark subject matters like current geopolitics, corruption, and state fascism.
SUWAIL is a fearless take on how Imperialism, Bureaucrat Capitalism, and Feudalism bleed the Philippine society dry of its resources and how it uses state forces to suppress calls from those who dare to fight back. It is tied together with an art installation showcasing tools for resistance, which some may find excessive. The show dares us to be defiant and question what society deems as an acceptable means of resistance when the ruling class and the government have already put our way of life in chaos.
