FROM TRAIN RIDE TO JEEPNEY RIDE

Despite the cancellation of the train ride last Saturday due to the earthquake, we decided to push through with the heritage tour. What was originally planned as a journey by rail transformed into a memorable jeepney ride, proving that the spirit of exploration and learning can continue despite unexpected challenges.

Participants still experienced the rich history, culture, and heritage of Libmanan, visiting significant sites and discovering stories that connect the past to the present. While the mode of transportation changed, the purpose of the journey remained the same - to celebrate local heritage and deepen appreciation for the communities that helped shape our region.

Sometimes, the best adventures are the ones that take an unexpected turn.

A LENS THROUGH TIME

This rare, restored 1935 Leica IIIa, once owned by our University Founder, Dr. Jaime Hernandez, is set to capture new stories once again.

Soon, it will be in the hands of our museum curator, a photographer-contributor to Manila Bulletin’s Picture Perfect and various local and national publications, bringing this historic camera back to its original purpose—documenting moments that matter.

The photographs captured through this remarkable camera will be featured in a one-man exhibition by the museum curator set to take center stage this July at the University Museum. The exhibit will showcase contemporary images created through a nearly century-old camera, bridging generations of storytelling, artistry, and heritage.

The triumvirate of heritage advocates—Naga Tourism, University of Nueva Caceres (UNC), and the Local Government of Libmanan—come together to conclude Heritage Month through the Libmanan Heritage Tour, a unique journey that combines a ride aboard the storied Philippine National Railways train with an immersive exploration of the rich history, culture, and heritage of the town of Libmanan. Through this experience, participants will not only retrace historic routes but also discover the stories, landmarks, and traditions that continue to shape one of the province’s most significant heritage communities.
