(These artworks present the story of three teenagers wanting to uncover the existence of โbuwayaโ based on Tagakulo โBinuwayaโ tale.)
Once upon a time, two siblings from the mountainous part of Davao Occidental heard about the tale of โbinuwayaโ. One day, they planned to go to the sea and search for the โbuwayaโ by themselves, but they had one problemโฆ they didnโt own a boat.
But eager as they are, they adventurously went down to the shores from their home and went to their friendโs coastal village. The beach was far, but their eagerness to explore compelled them to try. They excitedly told their friend about their plan and pleaded to borrow his fatherโs small fishing banca. It turns out that their friend decided to join them on their quest.
The next morning, they meet by the beach as planned. Soon ready, they gently pushed the borrowed boat offshore. Bravely they paddled ahead, looking, searching, and waiting to see โbuwayaโ. Soon enough, the sea current brought them into deeper waters, but no proof of โbuwayaโ seemed evident. Instead, underwater they saw different kinds of fish and sea creatures, like corals, seagrasses, seacow, sea turtle, and so many more. The three friends gasped in awe and amazement at all the wonder they saw.
My point isโฆ even though lifeโs adventures might be scary and unknown, when you readily explore - deeper, wider, you will find beauty and light! And be able to see life's colorful array, and say, "kanenggeya (beautiful)"
