UPLB Museum of Natural History The UPLB Museum of Natural History, now on its 50th year, has served as one of the most important repositories of Philippine biological specimens since 1976.

The Museum of Natural History was established on September 30, 1976 by the University of the Philippines. This museum consists of preserved biological and zoological specimens, wood samples; by-products of microorganism, and also thousands of living plants/trees maintained in a separate location. This museum also serves as a reference for science and a center for documentation, research, and information. It has a diverse collection of more than 200,000 preserved Philippine animals, plants, cultures of living microorganisms, and other biota that showcase the country’s rich biodiversity.

| We celebrated yesterday our 50th founding! The UPLB Museum of Natural History has indeed come a very long way, from humble beginnings as small lots of specimens, growing to one of the largest in the Philippines!

Thank you Dr. Nathaniel C. Bantayan, our Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension at the University of the Philippines Los Baños for sharing this milestone with us. To our colleague in environmental conservation, UPLB College of Forestry and Natural Resources Dean Marlo D. Mendoza, we are truly excited to continue our planned collaborations.

To all our curators, core and project staff, museum volunteers, let us take to heart what questions our former Director, Dr. Juan Carlos Tecson Gonzalez rekindled in us when he presented some aspects of the museum's history. And of course, let us chart our new path to 50 more glorious years given the accomplishments we have forged under the leadership of our current Director, Dr. Marian P. De Leon.

Fifty years na tayo, ka-Museo! Going 💪 and 🫶 to more years to strengthen the protection, conservation, and sustainable use of biodiversity and the environment.

| The CLADES 2.0 Closing Program was made even more special with the delivery of a take-away discussion by Dr. Arvin C. Diesmos, who pressed the idea that a consortium of natural history collections in the Philippines will be crucial to advance the science of taxonomy and increase the number of its practitioners in megadiverse regions such as the Philippines.

After his talk, Dr. Marian P. De Leon, Director of the UPLB Museum of Natural History and current Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension thanked the participants as well as the sponsors of the conference.

To all the participants, we hoped that your stay in the University of the Philippines Los Baños, albeit short, was sweet with memories and ripe with new learnings and friends.

We echo this as if we were calling our from a cave: "From the bottom of our hearts, and deepest recesses of our minds, may you all have a safe journey back to your loved ones. Thank you, and this is CLADES 2.0, a core memory for you to keep!"
