UPLB Museum of Natural History

UPLB Museum of Natural History The UPLB Museum of Natural History, now on its 49th year, has served as one of the most important repositories of Philippine biological specimens since 1976.

The Museum of Natural History was established on September 30, 1976 by the University of the Philippines. This museum consists of preserved biological and zoological specimens, wood samples; by-products of microorganism, and also thousands of living plants/trees maintained in a separate location. This museum also serves as a reference for science and a center for documentation, research, and infor

mation. It has a diverse collection of more than 200,000 preserved Philippine animals, plants, cultures of living microorganisms, and other biota that showcase the country’s rich biodiversity.

| Congratulations to all participants of the DENR-Biodiversity Management Bureau's "Training on Wildlife Conservation and Management: Species Identification, Handling, and Management Techniques (Herpetofauna Session)", held August 17–21, 2026, at the Oasis Hotel, Splash Mountain Resort, Los Baños, Laguna! 🐸🐍

During the closing program, UPLB Museum of Natural History Director Dr. Marian P. De Leon and UPLB CAS Institute of Biological Sciences Deputy Director Ivy Amor Lambio personally congratulated the participants on their successful completion of the training. DENR-Biodiversity Management Bureau Assistant Director Mariglo Rosaida Laririt also sent her virtual greetings and appreciation to both the facilitators and participants.

| Did you know that while studies on arthropod taxonomy, systematics, and biodiversity in the University of the Philippines Los Baños started over 100 years ago with the scientific leadership of UP College of Agriculture Dean Edwin Bingham Copeland and Dean Charles Fuller Baker, Philippine entomology owes much of its discoveries to the pillars -- Dr. Leopoldo B. Uichanco, National Scientist Clare R. Baltazar, Dr. Leo C. Rimando, Dr. Victor P. Gapud, Dr. Leonila C. Raros and others.

In the past 50 years, part of our modern knowledge on arthropod biodiversity can be attributed to the men and women of the UPLB Museum of Natural History. We invite everyone to see, decade by decade, the artistic renditions of their discoveries!

Our exhibit "50 Years of Species Discovery: Golden Nuggets of Philippine Arthropod Biodiversity" is now open to the public at the 2nd Floor of the UPLB MNH Building. We will be glad to see you there 🫶

| Congratulations to the curators, researchers and project staff of the Entomological Collection of the UPLB Museum of Natural History, and also to all our staff in general for the successful opening of the "50 Years of Species Discovery: Golden Nuggets of Philippine Arthropod Biodiversity"!

Our sincerest gratitude to University of the Philippines Los Baños Chancellor Jose V. Camacho, Jr. for making the event more meaningful with his "surprise" inspirational message.

This special exhibit, put together as way to celebrate the UPLB MNH's upcoming golden anniversary in September, owes its fruition to the efforts of the museum's arthropod taxonomists and scientific illustrators, facilitated by curators Marnelli S. Alviola and Dr. Aimee Lynn B. Dupo.
