Rafael "Paeng" Paderna leaves behind more than a remarkable body of work. He leaves a community shaped by decades of teaching, mentorship, and generosity.
As an artist, educator, and cultural leader, he dedicated much of his life to developing the visual arts in Negros. Through his years as an educator and his leadership in the Art Association of Bacolod, he helped nurture generations of artists whose practices continue to enrich the cultural landscape of the region.
His works reflected a deep sensitivity to the human condition, finding beauty in ordinary lives and quiet moments. Yet perhaps his greatest masterpiece was the community he helped buildโone where artists learned from one another, found encouragement, and discovered confidence in their own voices.
In 2023, ILOMOCA had the privilege of sharing a selection of Tito Paeng's works as part of the EVV Collection exhibition at the AVV Gallery. Today, we remember him by revisiting those worksโcelebrating not only the artist behind them, but the generosity, humility, and vision that continue to live on through his students, colleagues, and the countless lives he touched.
We join the Bacolod art community in honoring his life and legacy. Our deepest sympathies go to his family, loved ones, students, and the entire Bacolod arts community.
