APPROPRIATING EXCESS: METHODOLOGY AS A LANGUAGE OF INTENT
Mideo M. Cruz born 1973 in Cabanatuan City, Philippines is a Filipino interdisciplinary artist and activist known for his provocative works that challenge societal norms and institutional power structures. He studied painting at the University of Santo Tomas from 1990 to 1995.
Cruz co-founded UGAT Lahi, an art collective promoting the role of culture and arts in nation-building. He later organized the international artists' network "New World Disorder," initiating art events and interventions to question and challenge capitalism and imperialist globalization. His contributions to contemporary art have been recognized with awards such as the Cultural Center of the Philippines' Thirteen Artists Award in 2003 and the Ateneo Art Awards in 2006.
