Malipayong !

The celebration continues as we share the good news that Audrey Dawn M. Tomada and Mary Mae Edgilez D. Yburan of the National Museum of the Philippines – Cebu will present their paper, “From Definition to Practice: The Impact of the Cebuano Translation of the 2022 ICOM Museum Definition in Central Visayas,” at the ICOM-ASPAC Annual Symposium 2026 tomorrow, May 19, 2026, in Pahang State, Malaysia.

NMP-Cebu extends its sincere gratitude to the members of the Central Visayas Association of Museums (CVAM), the National Museum network, language experts, ICOM Philippines, and ICOM Define for their support, collaboration, and guidance throughout the translation process.

As NMP-Cebu shares this initiative on the ICOM-ASPAC stage, may this inspire more translations of the 2022 ICOM Museum Definition into Philippine local languages and encourage wider regional collaboration in museum practice.

The ICOM ASPAC (Asia Pacific Regional Alliance) will hold its Annual Meeting in Pahang State, Malaysia, from 18 to 20 May. With an emphasis on Asia Pacific’s multicultural heritage in museums, it aligns its programme on this year’s International Museum Day theme: Museums Uniting a Divided World. It further draws attention on the ways in which coexistence and appreciation of Asia Pacific’s diverse climate, history, and heritage are embodied in museums, museum staff, and museum practice.

This year’s Symposium, taking place on 19 May, pivots on the theme, “Uniting Multicultural Asia Pacific through Museums: Diversity as Rich Heritage Assets in the Region”. Rather than divisions, the conference will address diversity as a rich resource in developing a unique museology in the region based on our needs, resources, communities and geographic place. Within the context of recent political conflicts, extreme weather events, technological changes and the urgency of sustainable practices, conversations will focus on significant factors that contribute to museum procedures and policies.

This event is in collaboration among ICOM ASPAC, ICOM Malaysia and Muzium Pahang. It is also a targeted forum for the dissemination and discussion of regionally relevant concerns and solutions for Asia Pacific’s vast distinctive cultures and polyphonic voices. By bringing together international experts engaged in Asia Pacific heritage sites and museums, this gathering in Malaysia aims to be a platform for exchanging aspirations, contestations, and ideas.

To participate in this discussion of regionally relevant concerns on Asia Pacific’s vast distinctive museology, you may register to this free Symposium using the link: https://docs.google.com/.../1FAIpQLSds5GxF_z.../viewform or use the QR code on the bottom of the poster.

For more information, please contact ASPAC Assistant Secretary, Mr. Hanze Song at [email protected].

Thank you for tirelessly bringing out the best in us. To them we are grateful for nurturing our and traditions, sustaining them across generations.

Today, your honors all mothers through one of the masterpieces of Martino Abellana. It is known how Maestro Tinong loves to have his family members as subjects for his portraits. In this painting, you can see how dearly he expresses his affection for his mother, Filomena Alcoseba - Abellana. He depicts her seated, wearing a light cerulean Filipiniana, a slightly opened fan on her right hand resting on the chair's arm, her left on her lap. Beside her a vase with delicate flowers, some lying on the table. A painting that sincerely immortalizes their mother's memory.

Come and visit your with your and see this painting at Gallery 5, Ang Kamamugnaon ug Kinaadman ni Maestro Tinong!
