June 9 is declared as Filipino-Chinese Friendship Day through Proclamation No. 148. As your celebrates this special day with the , we honor the shared history of friendship, commerce and cultural connections that have enriched both nations through generations.

One significant testament to this enduring relationship is this blue-and-white porcelain Ewer recovered from the , a vessel accidentally discovered by fishermen in the waters of Busuanga, northern Palawan, in early 1996.

Dating to the 15th century, this exceptional ewer was crafted at the famed kilns in Jiangxi province, . It features a motif of plantain leaves and floral designs. This ewer serves as a tangible reminder of the centuries-old maritime trade networks that connected the Philippines and China, fostering cultural exchange and mutual understanding across the seas.

Museum Week is a global celebration of museums organised by Culture For Causes and supported by UNESCO in 2016. From June 1 to 7, museums around the world participated through daily themes with hashtags that showcased diverse stories, experiences, and perspectives: , , , , , , and .

This yearโ€™s celebration notably explored the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in museums. As museums embrace new technologies to enhance operations, analyze collections and visitor data, and develop innovative ways of engaging audiences, your remains committed to the responsible and ethical use of AI. We recognize the varied perspectives surrounding this rapidly evolving technology and continue to ensure that all information is carefully reviewed, validated, and contextualized before dissemination.

also reminds us that museums are more than repositories of objects. They are spaces that foster dialogue, promote peace and inclusivity, inspire curiosity, and encourage environmental stewardship and sustainable futures.

What began as a discovery of a critically endangered marine species evolved into a story of collaboration, conservation and shared responsibility for our natural heritage. ๐Ÿข

More than preserving a specimen, Cheloโ€™s journey helped raise awareness about and the importance of protecting the natural environment that sustains us. It also demonstrated how museums and communities can serve as active partners in environmental stewardship. ๐ŸŒ

Through the collective efforts of local communities, government agencies, experts and museum professionals, Chelo was carefully documented and preserved through taxidermy to become the third leatherback specimen in the National Zoological collection, following the specimens from Camarines Sur and Bohol.

To date, Chelo is in its last stage of preservation โ€“ the drying phase, yet the spirit of collaboration continues as our interns assist your in its regular monitoring and preventive maintenance activities, helping ensure its preservation for future generations.

Cheloโ€™s preservation journey reminds us that protecting our planet is a shared responsibility. Through cooperation, dedication and a commitment to conservation, museums can help inspire meaningful action for biodiversity and .
