Pintô Art Museum and Arboretum opens 2026 with an immersive, spectacular exhibition by Mark Justiniani, whose abiding practice inquires into how materials—chiefly mirror, light, and objects—can assume alchemical properties, rendering both visually and viscerally the malleability of reality, the reaches and depths of space, and the almost-there proximity of mystery.

“Departure and Arrival” marks the latest iteration of his “Infinity Series,” where images are layered, ramified, and extended into the vertiginous logic of the infinite. Rather than direct transcriptions of reality, these works function as symbolic architectures of it—meditations on how meaning is sought through the tunnels we excavate, the stories we rehearse, and the optical instruments we build to look past the firmament and into the universe’s restless convolutions.

In the titular work, the viewer peers through a telescope that cuts across accumulated pages of human history, the constructs of civilization, and into space punctuated with meteors, only to encounter oneself as part of the passage. Mirrors, light, darkness, and the calibrated atmosphere of the gallery fold perception inward, making self-awareness an unavoidable endpoint. The admonishment “Know thyself” achieves an intimate encounter.

The exhibition opens this Sunday, January 18, and will run until May 24, inviting audiences to settle into the experience Justiniani has carefully, magically, and unforgettably crafted.

When something unspoken fills our inner world,
We scream without sound.
A silent cry expands farther than a loud one.
Words left unsaid resonate more deeply,
Echoing with a powerful aura.

“Silent Scream,” a solo exhibition by the Manila- and Seoul-based artist Whee, will open this Sunday, 2 PM, at Gallery 7, Ilustrado I.

This Lenten season, pilgrims and artgoers alike are invited to descend to the lower ground floor of Gallery 7 to witness “Offering”—Demet Dela Cruz’s full rendition of the Stations of the Cross, first completed in 2015. Rendered in his signature trompe l’oeil style, the series meditates on the Passion of Christ, not as a linear narrative alone, but as a terrain of grief and grace, betrayal and resolve. The Passion—Christ’s final journey from condemnation to crucifixion and burial—unfolds here in a series of illusions and interventions, where paint simulates texture, and soil becomes metaphor.

Mounds of earth form the base of the installation, evoking the raw, uneven ground of Golgotha, the literal and symbolic weight that Christ bore. The physicality of the terrain serves as counterpoint to the fragility of flesh and the constancy of divine purpose. As art critic Alice Guillermo once observed, “‘Offering’ demonstrates a fresh burst of vigor inspired by the Lenten season, memorable to all Filipinos… In these works, the images and the details which constitute them create a complex weave of lines and hues, inviting the eye to move over the work as on an unusual, breathing tissue of pain, suffering, and hope.”

Accompanying the installation is an ambient recording of the Pabása ng Pasyón—the traditional, uninterrupted chanting of the Pasyon, the 18th-century epic poem chronicling the life, Passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Heard throughout the space, the chant functions as sonic devotion: a shared grief, a liturgical memory.

Also located in the same gallery are monochromatic portrayals of the twelve apostles, likewise rendered by Dela Cruz in somber tones; a contemplative sculpture of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane by Jerson Samson; and wall-bound ruins by Ioannis Sicuya, whose fragmented structures gesture toward the collapse of empire, body, and belief.

During Holy Week, Pintô Art Museum and Arboretum will remain open from Palm Sunday until Holy Wednesday, and will resume operations on Easter Sunday—a return, not just to routine, but to renewal.
