COMMUNITY UPDATE
We are now well into 2026, and the WDHS committee continues investigating the way forward for the Wyndham and Districts Museum.
Thank you to everyone who supported our Casino Night and Playhouse Raffle fundraisers in the later part of 2025. Overall, we made approximately $9,000 from these events. In November, about thirty people attended our screening of the Beatrice Johnston and Joan McKenzie video interviews. These were well received, and we wish to thank Karen Milne and Caroline Carter for organising this event and providing a delicious supper.
Despite not having a museum building, our eHive site receives over 4000 views each month. In light of this, the committee has decided to move forward with a strategy to enhance our digital presence and make it more accessible. We are still looking at options to develop a physical presence in Balaclava Street. We will invite community feedback when we have a clearer view of what our options are.
Following the sale of the section in Edendale, we have around $260,000 in funds. We continue to look for fundraising opportunities in 2026. However, we are a small committee and would appreciate any assistance and support offered from our community.
Creating a physical museum in Wyndham is a community effort. We call on anyone in the community who wishes to be a part of the Wyndham and Districts Historical Society, or anyone who has any questions or comments, to get in contact.
