Where the bush meets the sea and history whispers through the pōhutukawa 🌊✨

Welcome to your gateway to Cathedral Cove; perfectly nestled in the heart of Hahei, just a few hundred metres from the golden sands of Hahei Beach.

Kauri Cottage and Willow Cottage sit on land rich in local history...once Hahei’s first grand homestead, established in 1867. Today, it remains a special gathering place. A little hub for adventurers and ocean-lovers alike.

From here, you can paddle your way to Cathedral Cove with our on-site kayak hire, weaving through turquoise waters and exploring hidden islands and marine life within the breathtaking Te Whanganui-A-Hei Marine Reserve.

After a day in the salt and sun, return to tranquility. Each private retreat is designed for two, featuring a cosy queen bed and all the amenities you need for a relaxed stay; jug, microwave, hotplates, washing machine, plus complimentary tea and coffee. Simple comforts, seaside charm, and space to breathe.
Slow mornings. Barefoot afternoons. Golden sunsets.
This is Hahei at its finest.

To book your stay, email us directly at [email protected] or find us on Airbnb and Booking.com.

We can’t wait to host you. 🌿

These two legends flew all the way from Germany and absolutely loved their kayak adventure and their 5⭐ review says it all!

Sharing our beautiful backyard with people from all over the world is exactly why we do what we do.

Seeing our guests leave happy, salty, and full of good memories is always the goal. Thank you to everyone who paddles with us and takes the time to share such awesome feedback, it means everything.

We can’t wait to welcome the next wave of explorers to Hahei 🌊

Art speaks. Art resonates. It’s the quiet magic that turns a house into a home.
Introducing Janice Clifton Wykes: a master of oil on canvas whose works live in homes around the world, each piece gently encapsulating the feeling of a place. We’re incredibly lucky to hold space for her beautiful collection and share it with you.

Souzie Speerstra has been creating art for as long as she can remember. From an early age, her work stood apart; shaped by a strong visual intuition and a deep connection to form, colour, and place. Raised among the works of modern masters such as Kandinsky, Klee, Cézanne, Matisse, Van Gogh and Gauguin, Souzie developed an early affinity between abstraction, bold shape, and expressive composition.

At just 11 years old, she attended a holiday workshop at The Society of Arts, an experience that helped solidify her creative direction. Her later career as a photolithographer introduced her to the powerful concepts of positive and negative space; elements that continue to underpin her distinctive visual language.
Souzie went on to exhibit with dealer gallery SOCA, holding eight years of sell-out solo exhibitions. Life later drew her back to the Coromandel; a place deeply woven into her personal and artistic identity. Having holidayed there for over 60 years, the region is now both her home and her primary muse.

Today, Souzie’s work is inspired by the dramatic coastal landscapes of the Coromandel Peninsula. Her current series explores rock formations and geological contrasts. The powerful, monolithic rhyolite cliffs and lava swirls of Tairua, Pauanui and Hot Water Beach, set against the softer, eroded ignimbrite headlands of Hahei, Cathedral Cove and the Whitianga caldera. These works speak to a compelling balance of strength and softness, masculinity and femininity, permanence and erosion.

We are absolutely thrilled to be hosting Souzie Speerstra’s work. Her paintings resonate deeply with this region and its people, capturing the essence of the Coromandel with both sensitivity and strength. It is a privilege to share her work in our space.
