We are absolutely thrilled to share that Christmas has come early for Heritage Park with the incredible offer from the Luiten Family of Plantpro & Sons to tackle the site with volunteer programs to beautify the gardens, create a botanical library with seed exchange, a garden shop and more!

These incredible people turned up for train rides with their kids and grandkids and could see the sites potential. After years as top of the game in landscaping and involved in many ways across different Whangārei communities we couldn’t be happier to say YES PLEASE to such a generous and community spirited partnership.

This morning we had a shared morning tea with the Whangārei Museum and Heritage Trust Board, Heritage Park Clubs and Kiwi North team to welcome Plant Pro, meet the new faces and hear all about what’s coming up. Julie Luiten was presented with a Life Membership by director Ruth Green-Cole to recognise the wonderful promise of the plans coming up and to thank her for what it means to have a flourishing park to match all of our projects while creating inclusive and welcoming spaces.

For those interested in joining the Heritage Park Gardeners keep an eye on our social media for more info soon. They’re already springing to action so if you see them on the park feel free to ask questions, lend a hand, meet new people and belong 🌱 Watch this space!

We had a great night at the Northland Business Excellence Awards where we were finalists in the Creative Industries category. Big thanks to the incredible organisers at NZ Chambers of Commerce Northland for hosting a venue full of inspiring people and celebrating the hard work happening across Northland.

We are super proud of our whole team, our twelve heritage clubs, and the volunteers who give their time because they believe in what we’re building. The recognition belongs to them, our Board, who backed real change this year, and to our partners at Te Parawhau, Whangārei District Council, Foundation North, and everyone who has supported us along the way.

Kiwi North is a not-for-profit charity, a small team looking after something big: precious native species, a nationally significant collection, and a piece of Northland’s heritage, for this community and the next generation.

Thank you to the judges for the care you’ve clearly put into this process, and to everyone there on the night representing Northland business.
