We recently held a Storytelling Competition and 7yr old Valerie wowed us with a visual story and chose her prize, a very special Gecko Encounter 🩎 Last weekend our keeper Bevan introduced Valerie and her mum to some of our creatures and she said it was “two thumbs up”. Then went away to create another story! Amazing work Valerie! Watch out for the next competition next school holidays, our prizes are juicy: a family membership, a gecko encounter or to go behind the scenes of the museum!

The team at Kiwi North was saddened to hear of Jean Dufty’s passing this week. Jean dedicated a lot of time and energy to Heritage Park in her lifetime and left her mark on this special place with one of our venues “The Dufty Room” a well-used community space which was named in her honour recognising her major contributions here from 1998-2015. Sending our deepest condolences to Jeans family and friends đŸ€

Wow we had a near impossible task of choosing winners of our Easter school holidays storytelling competition. But two stand outs were Cole’s short story “The Last March of the Forest King” and Valerie’s “A Day at Kiwi North” visual story. Cole chose a behind the scenes museum tour with as his prize and Valerie chose a special gecko encounter with the crew. Looking forward to meeting these creatives! And keep an eye out for the next competition

ANZAC Weekend Update

Kiwi North is open daily throughout the weekend and there is a special event hosted by the Vintage Car Club on Heritage Park this Sunday so please use Gate 1 for Kiwi North or Gate 2 if you are heading to the Swap Meet.
Have a safe long weekend, here’s hoping for clearer skies for the many local ANZAC day services across Whangārei tomorrow as we pay our respects (list of services locations and times are on the WhangāreiRSA page)
